Engineering Order - An Overview

What you can do in this activity

The aircraft, which is supplied by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), will have a prescribed configuration. The maintenance procedures to be followed for attaining an acceptable level of reliability and operating output, is also prescribed by the equipment supplier. The regulatory authority approves the configuration of the aircraft and its major assemblies together with the maintenance program to be adopted, before the aircraft is inducted for regular operations.

During its operating life, in order to increase reliability and ensure maximum availability, aircraft and components are subjected to innumerable changes. A modification to an approved aircraft or component configuration or their maintenance procedures is referred to as an “Engineering Change”. The engineering changes are typically triggered by the OEMs in the form of “Service Bulletins” or local aviation authorities in the form of “Airworthiness Directives” or generated internally during reliability analysis. The change communications are processed and executed through suitable engineering documents.

Engineering Document is a document, which contains the information about the various engineering changes that have to be carried out on the maintenance object (aircraft or component). Typically an engineering change involves modification of the component part numbers or change in the maintenance programs. The engineering document contains the complete details of the engineering changes that are to be carried out, including the material and resource requirements.

engineering documents will be processed into child engineering documents to handle follow-up action requirements of the parent engineering document. An engineering document, which requires follow up action, is not processed through MCM. Consequently, child -engineering documents take the MCM reference of the parent engineering document. Besides, a child engineering document cannot have an effectivity that is higher than the parent engineering document.

You can specify the task to be performed for executing the child engineering document, the effectivity details and the configuration changes due to the execution of the child engineering document.
