Create child engineering document - A summary of the activity
The aircraft, which is supplied by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), will have a prescribed configuration. The maintenance procedures to be followed for attaining an acceptable level of reliability and operating output, is also prescribed by the equipment supplier. The regulatory authority approves the configuration of the aircraft and its major assemblies together with the maintenance program to be adopted, before the aircraft is inducted for regular operations.
During its operating life, in order to increase reliability and ensure maximum availability, aircraft and components are subjected to innumerable changes. A modification to an approved aircraft or component configuration or their maintenance procedures is referred to as an “Engineering Change”. The engineering changes are typically triggered by the OEMs in the form of “Service Bulletins” or local aviation authorities in the form of “Airworthiness Directives” or generated internally during reliability analysis. The change communications are processed and executed through suitable engineering documents.
Engineering Document is a document, which contains the information about the various engineering changes that have to be carried out on the maintenance object (aircraft or component). Typically an engineering change involves modification of the component part numbers or change in the maintenance programs. The engineering document contains the complete details of the engineering changes that are to be carried out, including the material and resource requirements.
engineering documents will be processed into child engineering documents to handle follow-up action requirements of the parent engineering document. An engineering document, which requires follow up action, is not processed through MCM. Consequently, child -engineering documents take the MCM reference of the parent engineering document. Besides, a child engineering document cannot have an effectivity that is higher than the parent engineering document.
You can specify the task to be performed for executing the child engineering document, the effectivity details and the configuration changes due to the execution of the child engineering document.

Attach reference documents to the child engineering document
You can enter the reference documents that will be helpful in the execution of engineering document.
Use the “Edit References Information” page to specify the reference document details.
Define aircraft and part effectivity for the child engineering document
If the engineering document is applicable for “Aircraft”, you can define the aircraft effectivity, that is, indicate the aircrafts for which the Engineering Document is applicable.
Use the “Edit Aircraft Effectivity” page to identify the individual aircrafts applicable for the engineering document.
If the engineering document is applicable for “Engine” or “Component”, you can define the part and component effectivity, that is, indicate the parts and components for which the engineering document is applicable.
Use the “Edit Part No Effectivity” page to identify the parts applicable for the engineering document.
Use the “Edit Serial No Effectivity” page to identify the components applicable for the engineering document.
You can define schedules for one-time or recurring engineering document. In the case of one-time engineering document, you can specify the maximum number of days or hours within which the engineering document has to be executed. In the case of recurring engineering document, you can specify the interval in which the engineering document must be repeated.
Go to “Edit Periodicity Information” page to specify the schedule information for the engineering document.
Identify affected publications
You can enter the details of the publications that are affected due to the engineering document execution.
Go to “Edit Publications Changed” page to enter the affected publications details.
Identify concurrent requirements for the child engineering document
The execution of the current engineering document may require the compliance of already created engineering documents. Such engineering documents can be termed as concurrent requirements for the current engineering document.
Go to “Edit Engineering Document Concurrent Requirements” page to enter the concurrent requirement details for the engineering document.
Record configuration changes due to child engineering document execution
The engineering document execution might affect the configuration of the aircraft model or the aircraft. These changes can be recorded as configuration changes.
