Selecting engineering document for creating child engineering document
In this page, you can search for the engineering document for which the child engineering document is to be created. Tell me more.
Select the “Create Child Engineering Document” link under the “Engineering Document” business component.
The “Select Engineering Document” page appears.
Enter the following in the “Direct Entry” group box, if you know the engineering document number and the revision number, for which the you wish to create a child Engineering Document:

The engineering document for which a child engineering document must be created (Alphanumeric, 18). |
Revision # |
The revision number of the engineering document for which a child engineering document must be created (Alphanumeric, 40). |
Select the “Create Child Engineering Document” link provided alongside to create a child engineering document.
Enter the following in the “Search Criteria” group box, to search for an engineering document. Data entry in the following fields is optional:
Eng. Doc # |
The number identifying the engineering document for which the details are to be retrieved (Alphanumeric, 18). You can enter the number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system lists all the engineering document numbers that are similar to the values entered here. |
Revision # |
The revision number of the engineering document for which the details are to be retrieved (Alphanumeric, 40). You can enter the number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system lists all the engineering document number whose revision numbers are similar to the number entered here. |
Subject |
The description of the engineering document to be retrieved (Alphanumeric, 150). You can enter the description in full or specify it partially using the “*” character (Alphanumeric, 150). The system lists all the engineering documents whose descriptions are similar to the description entered here. |
Status |
Use the drop-down list box to specify the status of the engineering document to be retrieved. The system provides the options “Released” and “Closed”. The system retrieves all the engineering documents that are in the status specified here. The system sets the field to “Closed” by default. |
Note: The “Released” option will not be available, if the “Close Parent Engineering Document before creating child Engineering Document” option is set to “Yes” in the “Set Options” activity.
Eng. Doc Category |
Use the drop-down list box to specify the category of the engineering document to be retrieved. The system lists all the engineering documents that are in the category specified here. Leave this field blank, if you wish to retrieve details of engineering documents irrespective of their category. The system leaves the field blank by default. |
User Status |
Use the drop-down list box to select the user-defined status of the engineering document. The system retrieves all the engineering documents that are in the status specified here. Leave this field blank, if you wish to retrieve details of engineering document irrespective of their user status. The system leaves the field blank by default. |
Applicability |
Use the drop-down list box to specify the applicability of the engineering document to be retrieved. The engineering document could be applicable for an “Aircraft”, “Engine” or a “Component”. The system sets the field to “Aircraft” by default. |
ATA # |
The ATA chapter for which the engineering documents must be retrieved (Alphanumeric, 16). You can enter the number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the engineering documents containing ATA chapter number similar to the value entered here. Leave the field blank to retrieve the all the engineering documents irrespective of the ATA chapter number. |
MCR # |
The maintenance change request against which the engineering document is created (Alphanumeric, 40). The system retrieves all the engineering documents with the MCR number entered here. |
Revision # |
The revision number of the maintenance change request (Alphanumeric, 40). |
Click the “Search” pushbutton to display the search results.
Note: If you have set "Assignments Mandatory" as "Yes" in the “Set Options” activity, the system retrieves only the engineering documents that are assigned to the login user. If assignments are non-mandatory, the systemretrieves all the engineering documents.
The system displays the following fields in the “Employee Details” group box:

User Status |
The user defined status assigned to the engineering document. |
MCR # |
The number that identifies the maintenance change request based on which the engineering document is created. |
Revision # |
The revision number of the maintenance change request. |
ATA # |
The ATA chapter on which the engineering document must be executed. |
Eng. Doc Category |
The category of the engineering document. |
Subject |
The description of the engineering document. |

Selecting engineering document for creating child engineering document – An overview
In this page, you can search for the engineering document for which the child engineering document is to be created. You can create a child engineering document for engineering documents in the following status:
Released: When an engineering document is finally released for execution, the status of the engineering document is changed to “Released”.
Closed: When the engineering document is closed after execution. If the option "Close Parent Engineering Document before creating Child Engineering Document" is selected as "Yes" in option settings then engineering document with status 'Closed' alone can be fetched and Child engineering document can be created for that.
If you know the engineering document and the corresponding revision number, for which the child engineering document must be created, you can directly enter it. Otherwise, you can carry out a search based on the engineering document number, revision number, subject, status, category, user status, engineering document applicability or the ATA chapter number. Based on the search criteria, the system retrieves engineering documents in the multiline.
