Creating a maintenance change request – An overview
The engineering changes to be performed on the maintainable assets are triggered by both internal and external sources. The marketing or the engineering department raises the internal change request and the external request comes from the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and Regulatory Authorities. These agencies communicate the change information to the engineering department through the Modification document.
Some of the modification documents are:
SB (Service Bulletin) – released by the OEM
AOT (Air Operators Telex) – released by the OEM
AD (Airworthiness Directive) – released by Regulatory Authority such as “Federal Aviation Authority”.
Besides these bulletins and directives, the external agencies also release “SIL (Service Information Letters)”, that are informational in nature and which do not lead to any configuration change or change in maintenance procedures.
This activity allows you to record the internal request or the SB, AOT, AD etc., as a “MCR (MCR)”. You can provide a unique identifier for the maintenance change request. If the MCR has a revision number, you can enter the revision number and specify the details such as subject, user status, issue and receipt dates of the MCR. The other details such as whether the MCR is applicable to the aircraft or component, type of effectivity, identifier of the part and the nature of execution of MCR can be specified. The ATA chapter on which the MCR must be executed, priority, reason, background details, consequences, and the exact action that must be performed can also be specified.
You can also enter the details of the source document, such as the code of the manufacturer, name of the manufacturer, the regulatory authority, source that issued the MCR, and the type of the source document. The execution details such as the estimated time and man-hours required for the execution of the MCR can be defined. In this page, you can also enter the contact information, such as the source category, OEM address, name, phone number and email ID of the contact person responsible for the MCR.
The aircraft models on which the MCR must be executed can also be specified in this page. You can also specify the file name of the source document attached to the MCR.
You can enter the remaining details of the MCR in the relevant link pages and create the MCR. The system sets the status of the MCR as “Fresh” and stores the name of the currently logged in user and the current server date.
You can confirm the MCR in this page, which will enable the MCR for processing in the “Engineering Document” business component. You can confirm the MCR only when it is in “Fresh” status. Once confirmed, the system assigns the “Confirmed” status to the MCR.
This page also allows you to cancel an MCR that is already created and is in the “Fresh” status. The status of the MCR changes to “Cancelled” and the MCR will not be available for further processing.
