Process Change Request – A summary of the activity

Engineering changes often have serious financial implications by way of execution costs and revenue loss associated to grounding time for execution. Consequently, a proposed engineering change is first evaluated by a management committee comprising of representatives from the engineering, maintenance planning, material planning, production planning and in certain cases, a representative of the local regulatory authority. Most airline operators have a permanent Modification Committee, which meets on a regular basis.

The decision whether to execute an engineering change or not will be taken after doing extensive cost benefit analysis and evaluation of the safety and reliability implications. The committee deliberations can lead to:

• Effectivity change with respect to the operating fleet by adopting a sampling approach to study the efficacy of the change.

• Change in compliance time frames

• Change in scope - reduction or an expansion in the scope leading to a retrofit.

• Prescribing an alternate means of complying with the proposed engineering change.

You can select a change request for which the details are to be evaluated.

• Go to “Select Change Request” page.

• Select the change request (s), for which you wish to evaluate the details.

Evaluate Change Request

A management committee that constitutes engineering, maintenance planning, material planning and production planning department representatives evaluates a change request.

During evaluation, you can enter the details of the aircraft, part and the serial number on which the change request of type “MCR” is applicable.

• Go to “Evaluate Change Request” page to enter the evaluation details of the change request.

• Use the “Edit Aircraft Effectivity” page to enter the aircraft effectivity details for the change request of type “MCR”.

• Use the “Edit Component Effectivity” page to enter the part details.

• Use the “Edit Serial No. Effectivity” page to enter the serial number details.

Perform cost benefit analysis for change request

You can enter the cost benefit analysis details for the change request.

• Go to “Edit Cost Benefit Analysis” page to enter the cost benefit analysis details.

Process change request

The change request will be evaluated for safety and reliability implications. After the evaluation of change request, the executive members decide whether to execute the change request or not.

The aircraft, part and the component for which the change request is applicable (aircraft, part and serial number effectivity) can also be identified during the processing of the change request.

View processed change request

You can view the change requests that have already been processed. You can view the aircraft effectivity, part effectivity, employee assignment, cost benefit analysis and terminated change request details for the processed change request.
