Create Task – A summary of the activity
This activity enables you to define the task, which is the basic unit of the maintenance work performed on the equipment. Task is the primary work unit type. Tasks can be classified as routine tasks and non-routine tasks. A routine task represents a planned activity, which are typically derived out of the maintenance program. Routine tasks are suggested by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). Details such as schedule, applicability, resource or tool requirements can be provided for the routine task. Non-Routine tasks are the unscheduled or unplanned tasks carried out during non-routine kind of maintenance. If a non-routine task is executed repeatedly, it can be re-classified as a routine task.
Routine task, based on its origin, can be categorized as MPD, CMM, MOD, Non-Routine and other tasks. “Other tasks” are tasks suggested by the external agencies for analysis purposes.
Each task is identified by a number and a revision number can also be specified for the task. A task can undergo multiple revisions. The changes made to the task can be traced using the revision number. A task is uniquely identified using the task and revision number combination.
Manufacturing tasks: Users can also create tasks exclusively for the manufacture of parts. Such tasks are identified on the basis of the “Operations Type” attribute, which must be set as ‘Make’. Shop work orders for manufacturing a part can be created comprising ‘Make’ tasks in the Shop Work Order component. However, part, component and aircraft maintenance programs cannot comprise of any Make task. Shop work orders comprising Make tasks are referred to ‘Make’ shop work order, which aim to produce parts.

What you can do in this activity
Group tasks under “Aircraft”, “Engine” or “Component” depending upon the task applicability
Define aircraft model or component effectivity for the task
Maintain multiple revisions of the task
Create task involving multiple subtasks, resources and parts
Specify access panels for the task
Identify multiple work areas and zones for the task
Specify date-based and parameter-based schedule for the task
Provide document references for the task
Routine tasks can be of different types such as “MPD”, “CMM”, “MOD”, "Non-Routine” and “Other tasks”.
Go to “Create Task Information” page.
Select the appropriate option in the “Task Type” drop-down list box, to identify the task type which could be “MPD”, “CMM”, “MOD”, “Non-Routine” or “Others”.
Group tasks under “Aircraft”, “Engine” or “Component” depending upon the task applicability
You can create tasks applicable for aircraft, engine or component.
Go to “Create Task Information” page.
Select the appropriate option in the “Task Applicability” drop-down list box.
Define aircraft model or component effectivity for the task
If the task is applicable for “Aircraft”, you can define the model effectivity, that is, indicate the aircraft models for which the task is applicable.
Use the “Edit Model Effectivity” page to identify aircraft models for the task.
Use the “Edit Aircraft Effectivity” page to identify the individual aircraft, belonging to the specified model, for the task.
If the task is applicable for “Engine” or “Component”, you can define the component effectivity, that is, indicate the components for which the task is applicable.
Use the “Edit Component Effectivity” page to identify the components for the task.
Maintain multiple revisions of the task
A task can contain multiple revisions. Modifications to the task can be traced though the revision numbers. The revision number represents the number of changes the task has undergone.
Go to “Create Task Information” page.
Enter the revision number for the task in the “Revision #” field.
Create task involving multiple subtasks, resources and parts
You can define multiple sub tasks for the maintenance task and specify the sequence in which they have to be carried out while executing the maintenance task. Use the “Sub-Tasks” multiline in the “Create Task Information” page to enter sub task details.
Use the “Edit Resource Requirements” page to enter resources required for executing the task.
Use the “Edit Part Requirements” page to enter parts required to execute the task.
Specify access panels for the task
Access panels provide work area access for performing the maintenance task. Executing a maintenance task may involve opening of one or more panels to access a component or the area inside the component.
Use the “Edit Access Panel Information” page to identify the access panels for the selected task
The access panel tasks will be executed based on the sequence in which the access panels are identified for the task.
Identify multiple work areas and zones for the task
Work area is the physical location where the work has to be carried out. This can be inside or outside the aircraft. Zones are the different areas inside the aircraft.
Use the “Edit Work Area / Zone Information” page to identify multiple work areas or zones for the task.
Specify date-based and parameter-based schedule for the task
The schedule decides the optimum limits within which the task is to be performed. Periodicity can be in terms of calendar duration and or on the basis of one or more consumption parameters (like flight hours / flight cycles) This becomes very important especially for MPD type and CMM tasks.
You can define the schedules based on dates as well as parameters.
Use the “Edit Periodicity Information” page to define date-based and parameter-based schedules.
Provide document references for the task
You can identify the various documents that contain the reference information regarding the task.
Go to "Edit Task References" page.
Enter the reference document details for the task or sub-task.
