Component Maintanence Planning - An Overview

What you can do in this activity

This activity helps you forecast the maintenance activities for the components in order to ensure continued serviceability. Based on the forecast of the workload you can plan the material and resources needed for the maintenance activity, that is the Skills, Facilities and Equipment requirements, well in advance. This will eventually help you forecast the maintenance costs. Maintenance costs will involve manpower requirements, budgetary estimates, material, labor costs etc. The forecast will also help you make decisions on outsourcing and developing in-house facilities.

Component Maintenance Planning Process

The Component Maintenance Planning cell assesses the up-coming component maintenance activities that are either scheduled or unscheduled.

The Work Scope comprises scheduled off-wing and on-wing maintenance activities. Off-wing maintenance activities involve replacements of components, which are currently fitted on to the aircraft. On-wing maintenance activities include inspection of the component maintenance activities, emergency engineering change requirements and one - time inspection requirements from the respective engineering cells. The Component Maintenance Planner finalizes the work scope. It allocates the component removals and the on-wing inspections to the “Visit Package”. It creates the Maintenance Plan or the Maintenance Plan along with the Component Work Order for one of the available facilities for execution, or creates a Request for Repair, if the execution has to be performed by an outside vendor.

Forecast Creation

Forecasting essentially involves calculating the expected costs arising out of the maintenance of a component. To do this, the current values of the parameters like number of 'Flight Hours' of the component installed, 'Flight Cycles' etc are taken into account. The forecast is usually generated for a user-defined period of time, and the expected date of maintenance arising is calculated from the following:

Based on the above data, the system calculates the Remaining Flight Hours / Cycles / Days etc. till any work unit is due.

From the remaining values for each parameter and the utilization figure for that parameter, the date of the maintenance activity and the list of work units for the defined period are determined.

In this activity, you can select the planner group, which will create the forecast for the planning objects such as components, part numbers, ATA chapters and component families. The forecast thus generated is released for the execution of maintenance activities.

Select planner group for forecast creation

You can select a planner group, which will create the forecast for the planning objects. The planning objects are the objects for which the maintenance activities must be planned. These are created in “Create Planner Group” activity and associated to the planner group.

Create Forecast

You can generate the forecast for the components for which the maintenance arisings must be ascertained. The details such as the forecast dates, category and the summary of the component arisings can be entered.
