Through this activity, you can edit a department. Departments refer to the functional units into which an organization is divided for efficient execution of work along with aiding in administrative convenience. For example, Human Resources department handles all aspects of work pertaining to the hiring of employees and staffing the other departments with competent employees.
The code assigned to a department is unique and cannot be edited. The system maintains the department record in all the languages specified at the time of installation. You can edit the department in any of the available languages.
What you can edit?
You can edit the following details of the department:
The short and long descriptions of the department.
The date from which the department should be effective.
The employment units to which the department is mapped. You can make the department applicable to all, selective or only to the login employment units.
The competencies applicable to the department.
The cost centers to which the department is mapped.
In addition, the system gives you the flexibility of activating or deactivating the department, whenever necessary. If you choose to activate the department, it means that it will be available for use in other activities.
Apart from editing the department details, you can edit the competencies mapped to it. Competencies refer to the skills, knowledge and behavioral traits that an employee attached to the department must possess for optimum performance. For example, effective communication skills enable an employee attached to the marketing department to function efficiently.
The department-cost center mapping details can also be edited. Cost centers refer to the functional units into which an organization is divided for costing purposes. When you map the department to a particular cost center, it indicates that all the costs and expenditure incurred on the department will be apportioned to the specified cost center.
You can also edit the comments entered pertaining to the department details and also enter new comments.
