What you can do in this activity

 

Through this activity you can edit the details of a competency. To edit a competency, you are to first select the required competency record either by directly entering the competency code or by specifying wild card search criteria for the code, description etc., details. The system fetches the competency records that match the specified search criteria from which you can select the required competency record to edit.

Through the Edit Competency activity, you can effect changes to the competency, which range from the superficial to the radical. Basic changes entail merely modifying the competency description and the minimum desired level.  It could also entail modifying the applicability of the competency to the organization units. This will mean,

Updating Competency Classes: You can also change the nature of the competency radically, by updating the competency classes within the competency. Updating refers to adding, modifying and deleting competency classes. The weightages assigned currently to the competency classes can be reshuffled as well.

Updating Competency Elements: To modify at the most elementary level of the competency, you are to update the competency elements within any updated competency class. Update implies.

Note: The mapping of the competency element to the competency class in the “Create Competency Element” page remains unaffected.

The competency you are editing may have been defined with or without constituting competency classes and elements.

If the competency does not comprise classes and elements, you can redefine it with specifying the required classes and elements. You can also delete competency classes and elements from being part of the competency.

This helps you to tailor the competency totally for your organization’s needs. To add competency classes and elements to the competency you are editing, you are to,

Therefore, you can define a given competency intuitively, by fine-tuning the weightage of the constituting competency classes and the competency elements. In effect, the complete profile of the competency depends on the weightage of each constituent competency class, and the minimum desired level and weightage of the various competency elements within each competency class.

Editing the short and long descriptions of the competency

You can edit the short and long descriptions of the competency.

Editing the active/inactive status of the competency details

The system provides the flexibility of activating or deactivating the competency  details whenever necessary. If the details are in active status, if means that they can be used in other activities. If you choose to deactivate the details, the competency  will not be available for use in other activities.

Editing the trainable nature of the competency

The trainable nature of the competency  indicates if the employees can be given training to improve their proficiency levels in the competency  or otherwise. For example, if the competency is  ‘Programming Skills’, you can indicate if it is trainable.

Editing the minimum desired level of the competency

Minimum desired level indicates the minimum extent to which the employee should be proficient in the competency  against a maximum value set in the process parameters during deployment. For example, if the competency is ‘Communication Skills’ and if the maximum value is set as 120 in the process parameters, you can indicate the minimum desired level as 35, 40 etc.
