The “Create Shift” activity is used to create shift information for the organization. Organizations maintain different kind of timings, which can be either flexible or fixed timings. Through this activity, the organization can create a repository and maintain the list of shift timings.
Regular Shift: You are to define a unique code to identify the shift as well as provide a description of the shift. In addition, you must specify the start and the end time of the shift and indicate the tolerance time that the organization considers. For example, the shift timing is from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but the tolerance time that the organization allows is 15 minutes.
You are to then provide a break-up of the shift in terms of work sessions and break sessions. Any number of sessions is allowed in a shift. Note that the start time of the first session must be in line with the start time of the shift. Similarly, the end time of the last session must be in line with the end time of the shift
Core Timings: You can also introduce the concept of core timings within the day, during which all employees in the organization must be present.
Flexi Shift: You can also define a Flexi shift where the timings are flexible. You are to specify the start and end timings of the shift, and indicate that the shift is of Flexi Shift type. Additionally, you are to specify one of the following
The total numbers of hours the employees must compulsorily contribute, each day
The core timings to which the employee must adhere; this consists of a start time and an end time.
See Implications of Flexi time
Availability to Organization Units: You are to specify the employment units to which the shift timings will be applicable. You can define whether the shift will be applicable for

Selective organization units. If you choose this option, you are to enter a separate page and choose the required organization units individually
Specifying the Hours in a Shift: You are to specify the equivalent of each session of the shift, in terms of hours. The sessions include work as well as break sessions. The system later uses this information to track the hours contributed by the employee during instances of leave.

What you can do in this activity
When the employees’ attendance is recorded for processing, the system verifies whether he or she is mapped to a regular shift or to a Flexi shift. The employee’s attendance hours for the day could fall short of the start and end time defined for the shift. However, if the employee is mapped to a Flexi shift, he or she may still be considered eligible for a full day’s pay, provided his or her attendance hours for the day
