Edit Period Unit - A summary of the activity
A period unit refers to a fixed period of time. A period unit can be a week, a day or an hour. A period unit is used to define the frequency of the payroll calendar; computations of pay, calculating the attendance of an employee, etc, are all based on period units. Each period unit is made up of smaller units of time called base period units.
The base period unit provided in the system is "Hour". Every period unit is converted into the base period units and recorded. The base period is used to measure all parameters of pay such as Attendance and Pay Element Value. The pay of a particular employee is computed on the number of base period units, that is, the number of hours.
The process of converting a period unit into the base period unit can be achieved by the "conversion factor". For example, an organization defines "week" as its period unit, and the base period unit is “hours”. The week is a five-day working week, and the conversion factor is 40. The system uses the conversion factor, to determine the number of hours per day of the week.
Through the “Edit Period Unit” activity, you can modify and delete an existing period unit. You can choose to apply these modifications to the corresponding records in the other available languages. You can also map the modified period unit to various organization units. You can change

Translation of Record in Chosen Language: You can also translate the details of the period unit into any language that is listed in the “Language” drop-down list box.
The “Language” drop-down list box will list the specific languages that you specified during the installation of Period Unit. All languages using Roman characters are permitted.
For instance, during installation, you had logged in, in German, and specified the other languages to be French, English and Spanish. The system then replicates the period unit record four times, each of which it considers as French, English, German and Spanish records.
