Unit of Measurement - An overview

The UOM business component is a master component that facilitates definition of various units of measure and is used across the organizations in different applications. Enterprises generally use Various units of measurement (for example tons, kilograms, gallons) for measuring parts (items) or different stock (parts) having different attributes. The units of measurement may vary for different parts and attributes.

A part may also be transacted in more than one unit of measure based on the business requirement. When the UOM’s belong to same category of fundamentals units (For example, Kgs. and Lbs belong to the category of weight), the Conversion factor is universally constant. These factors are independent of part reference.

When the UOM’s belong to different categories of fundamental units, the conversion depends on the item under consideration. For example, conversion from pounds to gallons will depend upon the density of the diesel. Such kind of conversions are defined as the part dependent conversions .

Getting familiar with the activities
