Flight Log - An Overview

The “Flight log” business component is used to capture journey details inclusive of the changes in various aircraft and engine parameters and information regarding resources consumed by the aircraft after every journey that it undertakes. It is also used to report the discrepancies observed in the aircraft, which can be resolved by the mechanic. If the mechanic is not able to resolve any discrepancy due to non-availability of spares, resources, tools etc., then such discrepancies can be postponed or deferred. . Flight log also provides billing information along with activity and duty details of the employees during the journey.

The business component serves the following purposes:

• Update the flying hours and flying cycles of the aircraft. This has a direct impact on the remaining life of the aircraft and all its components, which in turn influences the scheduled maintenance of the aircraft and its components.

• Report any discrepancy, caused by the unscheduled maintenance of the aircraft or any other reason.

• Assign the responsibility for any delay that may have taken place at departure or arrival of the flight.

• Provide the necessary information to carry out reliability analysis.

• Record incidents occurring on ground or in air and to report the related checks performed.  

• Record the resolution action or deferment details for the discrepancies reported.

• Record the material request and resource consumption details and the effort spent for carrying out the resolution action of any discrepancy as part of the technical log.

• Issue the certificate of maintenance for resolution action of any discrepancy, as part of the technical log.

• Replace components, to rectify associated discrepancies.
