Create Technical Log – A summary of the activity
This activity enables you to create and report the technical log details. Basically, the technical log for the aircraft is created after the journey log is recorded and before the commencement of the next journey. If the technical log is created using the reference of the journey log, then, the journey log must be in "Confirmed" status. But a technical log can also be created without any reference to a journey log. For example, a technical log can be created for situations like night halt or per flight checks without referring a journey log.
You can record the maintenance work carried out in terms of scheduled or routine check, incident compliance and the discrepancies observed by the aircraft maintenance engineer or the cabin crew. The journey log discrepancy details, if reported by the pilot for that journey, the resolution or deferral action of unresolved journey log discrepancies (if any), the resolution of deferred maintenance report (which may be taken up as part of this technical log) and the discrepancies observed by the mechanic and their resolution, are also recorded in the technical log.
The technical log also enables you to record and report material consumption and resource consumption details and the time spent by the employee for resolving discrepancies. This information will be used for costing of maintenance actions relating to the discrepancies or maintenance reports. You can also view the work performed earlier, in terms of suggested work scope and the actual work carried out by the mechanic.
A unique, system-generated number identifies each technical log. The system assigns the “Fresh” status to the newly created technical log. You are allowed to modify details, until the technical log is confirmed. Once confirmed, a technical log cannot be modified. The Technical Log allows to modify the details of a non standard task created in the technical log.

What you can do in this activity
Create technical log for the aircraft
Report various actuals for the maintenance report
Record additional work & Sign-off information
Record or modify the component replacement information
Create technical log for the aircraft
You can create a new technical log for an aircraft. Technical log details comprise the discrepancies reported and the action taken for resolving the discrepancy in the aircraft before the commencement of the journey.
Use the “Create Technical Log” page to create a new technical log for the aircraft.
Discrepancies are typically the deviation from the intended standard of the aircraft, which are observed by the person in charge, such as the pilot, mechanic or the cabin crew. Discrepancies are reported by the pilot or the cabin crew in the Journey log. The mechanic reports discrepancies in the Hangar Work Order , Component Work Order or technical log. In the technical log, you can identify resolution procedures or create an engineering service request to identity the resolution procedures.
Go to “Create Technical Log” page.
Use the “Identify Resolution Procedure” page, to record the work units to be executed to resolve the discrepancies.
Use the “Create Engineering Service Request” page, to create an engineering service request to Identify Resolution Procedure.
Discrepancies can also be deferred or carried forward in case of non-availability of spares or resources, non-equipped maintenance station, or to avoid delay. A maintenance report can be generated to defer discrepancies of similar nature.
Select the “Defer PIREP & Tech Log Reported Discrepancies” link in the “Create Technical Log” page.
The “Defer Discrepancies” page appears.
Use this page to edit the deferral details for the maintenance report.
Select the “Edit Deferral Report” link, to add discrepancies to the maintenance report and record time-based and usage-based deferral details for the reported discrepancies.
Select the “Revise Deferral Limits” link in the “Create Technical Log” page, to edit the deferral limits for discrepancies that are already deferred.
Report various actuals for the maintenance report
You can report the various actuals such as the employee, resource, part consumption and component replacement details for a maintenance report.
Select a maintenance report in the muliline of the “Create Technical Log” page.
To update resource actuals, select the “Report Resource Consumptions” link.
To update parts consumption and to view part details, select the “Request Material & Report Consumptions” link.
To update employee actuals, select the “Edit Employee Timesheet” link.
Record work and Sign-off information
You can specify the execution details of the work units carried out. You can specify existing tasks, standard procedures, component work package, aircraft work package or create new tasks. . You can also view sign-off information at the sub-task level. Provision for signing off these work units also provided.
Select the maintenance report in the multiline of the “Create Technical Log” page.
Select the “Record Work & Sign-off Information” link, to record additional work units and sign-off details for the maintenance report.
Record or modify the component replacement information
Discrepancy(s) reported on the component might also mandate the component to be removed from the aircraft. These replacements are reflected in the physical configuration of the aircraft.
Use the “Create Technical Log” page to select the maintenance report for which the component replacement details must be recorded.
Go to the “Replace Components” page to specify the component replacement details.
