Aircraft Maintenance Program - An Overview
The routine maintenance for an aircraft is configured through an Aircraft Maintenance Program. The maintenance program identifies the scope (work packages, standard procedures and tasks) of the planned maintenance as well as the periodicity with which the maintenance needs to be performed.
Typically, aircraft of the same model will have similar maintenance needs. Consequently, the same maintenance program can be applied to all such similar aircraft. Besides routine maintenance, specialized maintenance activities such as corrosion prevention programs can also be configured as a maintenance program. An aircraft can belong to one or more maintenance programs.
The Aircraft Maintenance Program business component addresses the function of configuring and maintaining the standard maintenance routines of aircraft.
Work packages, which are a collection of tasks or procedures, are defined in this business component.
Work Package
A Standard Work Package is a collection of tasks and/or procedures, which are executed together. A standard work package can effectively be used to group together maintenance activities that have the same periodicity (repeat interval). The various types of routine aircraft maintenance such as pre-flight, daily and weekly inspections and major checks can be configured as standard work packages.
Work packages offer the following benefits:
Schedules can be tracked at a work package level, instead of at individual task or procedure level. Consequently, configuring and maintaining a routine maintenance program becomes easier.
Tasks and procedures that are executed by different work centers can be included in a work package.
Aircraft Maintenance Program
Work packages along with tasks or procedures are specified for a maintenance program. Apart from defining the work scope for a program, the following details are also specified for a program:
Schedules are specified for every work unit that must be performed as part of the program.
Dependency of the work units in the program is defined and the schedules for the performance of the dependent work units are also specified.
The maintenance events that must be performed as part of the program.
The reference documents based on which the program is created.
The aircraft models for which the maintenance program is applicable.
Aircraft are then associated to a maintenance program or maintenance programs are associated to an aircraft. You can further modify the maintenance program specific to the aircraft.
