Defining a new increment set
See page overview.
Select the “Define Increment Set” link under the “Increments” component.
The “Select Increment Set” page appears.
Enter the following
Increment Unit |
The drop-down list box displays the set of organization units in which the Increments component is deployed: these listed organization units also interact with the login Increments component organization unit. Tell me more From the “Increment Unit” drop-down list box, select the organization unit for which the increment set you define will be applicable. |
Increment Set ID |
Enter a unique code to identify the increment set that you are about to define. |
Select the “Create Increment Set” link.
The “Define Increment Set” page appears. The system displays the following:
Date Format |
The date format applicable to the login user. |
Increment Unit |
The organization unit that you had selected in the previous page |
Increment Set ID |
The unique code that you had entered in the previous page, to identify the increment set |
To define the details of a new increment set
Enter the following
Increment Set Description |
The name or description of the increment set |
Currency |
From the drop-down list box, select the currency in which the increment set will be maintained. |
Rated Frequency |
From the drop-down list box, choose the unit of time based on which the increment will be fixed. For example, if the increment is to be Rs 100 per day, you must choose “Day” as the rated frequency. |
Increment Type |
From the drop-down list box, choose “Scale based” or “Non-scale based”, to indicate whether the increment amount will be based on the employee’s scale. |
Increment Pattern |
From the drop-down list box, choose “Anniversary” or “Adhoc”, to indicate the frequency for assigning the increment set to the employees. “Anniversary” indicates that the increment set will be updated to the employee’s base salary after every one year from the employee’s date of joining. “Adhoc” indicates that the increment set is updated to the employee’s base salary at other user-defined frequencies. |
In the “No. of Increments” field, enter the number of increments. For example, if the employee’s scale is 2250-50-2750, the increment will be in multiples of 50. If 2 increments are specified, the employee will be credited with Rs 100.
Enter only one of the following three options
Increment Amount |
Enter a flat amount, indicate the value of the increment set |
Increment Percentage |
Enter the percentage based on which the increment must be calculated. The system interprets it to be a percentage of the employee’s base salary. |
Increment Rule |
Enter the name of the stored procedure rule based on which increment set must be calculated. The actual rule can be defined using the “Define Rule” link. |
Select the “Save” pushbutton to save the details.
To deactivate the increment set
After you define the details of the increment set, check the “Inactive” box
After you define the details of the increment set, select the “Delete” pushbutton.

Computing the employee’s anniversary date
The system arrives at 1 year of the employee from his or her date of joining or last effective increment date, by including holidays, weekly offs and leave, but excluding extraordinary leave and extraordinary leave dies non. . Given below is an example, where the increment month is April and the year is 2003.:
Employee 1 Last Effective Increment Date = April 18 2002
Employee 2 Last Effective Increment Date = April 19 2002
Employee 2 Last Effective Increment Date = April 20 2002
In this example, all three employees availed extraordinary leave of 12 days each. Therefore, Employee 1 will complete 1 year by April 30th, while Employee 2 will complete 1 year by May 1st and Employee 3 will complete 1 year by May 2nd.
For every scale and every slab with each scale, the increment amount is predefined already within the Create Scale activity. Shown below is an example of the slabs within a given scale, with the increment amount for each slab.

If you specify that an increment set must be scale based, you also have the flexibility to specify the number of increments.
Later, when the increment is processed, the system will ascertain the scale and slab of the employee from the Employee Compensation Information component, and the increment amount associated with the scale. The system will add the number of increments that was specified for the increment set.
For example, if the employee is within the slab 2250 and 2750, and the number of increments is 2, the system will add Rs 100 to his base salary.
Implication of increment attributes
You are to specify these two attributes of the increment set, to make it possible for the system to filter the employees for whom the increment set will become applicable, during increment processing. The attributes referred to are “Currency” and “Rated Frequency”.
For example, you can define the increment set named Performance-Based, and specify the following attributes for it; Currency = Rupees, Rated Frequency = Monthly. During increment processing, this increment set will be applied to only those employees for whom
The base salary is maintained in Rupees, in the Employee Compensation Information component.
The rated frequency is maintained as “Monthly” in the Employee Compensation Information component. See A summary of filtering employees and processing their increments.
A summary of filtering employees and processing their increments
When the system processes an increment set, it derives the list of eligible employees by applying three levels of filters.
First filter: The first filter that the system will apply, when it processes the increment set, will be one of the following options you had specified in the “Define Eligibility for Increments” page.
Process all employees
Specify grade set – grade
Employee eligiblity rule
Note: If you had checked the “Consider Only Primary Assignments for Employees” check box in the “Set Increment Parameters” page, the system will consider only the base salary associated with the primary assignment of each employee, for increment.
Second filter: The system will apply the second filter on the employees who were derived as the result of the first filter. The second filter will be the following two attributes you specified while defining the increment set:
Currency
Rated Frequency
After the system derives the second-level filtered list of employees, it will determine the following
Whether the increment type will be scale based or non-scale based. If it is scale based, the system will identify the employee’s scale from the Employee Compensation Information component. The system will also determine the increment amount predefined for this scale.
Whether the increment pattern will be anniversary-based or adhoc. If it is anniversary-based, the system will compute 1 year of the employee since his or her date of joining or previous aniversary date.
Third filter: The system will apply the third filter on the employees who were derived as the result of the second filter. This filter will be applicable only when the increment is anniversary based. This will be the following parameter, which you will specify during increment processing.
The month for which the system must process employees who are eligible.
