Record Component Replacement Details – A summary of the activity
Component Replacement is a document which contains information as to which part number and serial number must be removed from which position code and which component must be installed. The approval of visit package and requirement of scheduled replacement or a need for replacement as a consequence of snag processing can result in component replacement. This transaction is used to track this replacement. A replacement transaction is generated for every replacement of the component.
Position codes are the identifications of the physical locations in the aircraft or component structure, which serve as seats for child components. Each position code has a part number associated to it. These position codes help in tracking the replacement history of the components attached to it at various points in time. Components are the building blocks for the systems in the aircraft. They are attached to a parent entity (which can be an aircraft or another component) and move from one parent to another during its active life or for which the life has to be tracked. Components identified in the “Aircraft Model” component are typically serial number controlled parts whose part numbers have been defined in “Inventory”. The system maintains history as to which component was installed to which position code.
In the case of scheduled maintenance, visit package triggers the work order for the component, which is due for maintenance. The component replacement transaction is generated for the work order resulting in replacement of the component.
In the case of unscheduled maintenance, any work unit of the generated “Maintenance Report”, having the task of replacement triggering component replacement, should generate a component replacement transaction. But the replacement transaction need not necessarily have a reference to the work order.
The component replacement transaction contains the details such as next higher assembly details, aircraft details, current installed component details and the incoming component details. The component replacement can be carried out only if there is no existing open work-order for the position code and the component. Aircraft configuration gets updated only after the component replacement transaction is confirmed.
This transaction will be identified with a unique number across the organizational unit. The component replacement transaction can take any of the following status:
Fresh - When the component replacement transaction is created. The component and position history are not updated when the transaction is in this status.
Removed - When the removal details are confirmed, the status changes to “Removed”. The details of the outgoing component cannot be modified once the status is changed to “Removed”.
Replaced - When the replacement transaction is confirmed, after entering the incoming component details. The component and position history are updated once the status of the transaction is changed to “Replaced”.
Cancelled - When the replacement transaction is cancelled. Only replacement transactions that are in “Fresh” status can be cancelled.
Error-Removed – When the component removal transaction is confirmed with errors.
Error-Replaced – When the component replacement transaction is confirmed with errors.
Whenever a component is replaced with another component, the system generates a unique number to identify the component replacement transaction. This replacement transaction provides input for tracking the reliability of the component.

Create component replacement transaction with different statuses
The component replacement transaction can take any of the following status:
Fresh - When the component replacement transaction is created. The component and position history are not updated when the transaction is in this status.
Go to “Update Component Replacement Details” page.
Click the “Create CR” pushbutton to create the component replacement transaction in “Fresh” status.
Removed - When the removal details are confirmed, the status changes to “Removed”. The details of the outgoing component cannot be modified once the status is changed to “Removed”.
Go to “Update Component Replacement Details” page.
Click the “Confirm Removal” pushbutton to create the component replacement transaction in “Removed” status.
Replaced - When the replacement transaction is confirmed, after entering the incoming component details. The component and position history are updated once the status of the transaction is changed to “Replaced”.
Go to “Update Component Replacement Details” page.
Click the “Confirm Replacement” pushbutton to create the component replacement transaction in “Replaced” status.
Cancelled - When the replacement transaction is cancelled. Only replacement transactions that are in “Fresh” status can be cancelled.
Go to “Update Component Replacement Details” page.
Click the “Cancel CR” pushbutton to cancel the component replacement transaction.
Use the “Error Log” tab in the “Update Component Replacement Details” page, to view the errors encountered during the component replacement transactions.
The details of all the errors encountered during the component replacement transactions will be displayed in the “Error Log” multiline. You can view the status of the error and the date on which the error was recorded and closed.
View component details for installed components
Use the “View Component Record” page to view the details of the installed component.
Modify component replacement transaction
The component replacement transaction created in the “Update Component Replacement Details page can be modified. Only the component replacement transactions that are in the “Fresh”, “Removed” and "Inst. Reversal" status can be modified.
Use the “Edit Component Replacement Details” page to modify the component replacement transaction.
Amend component replacement transaction
The component removal details can be altered for the component replacement transactions that are in the “Replaced” status.
Use the “Amend Component Replacement Details” page to alter the component removal details.
Record action against removed component
The action that has been performed against the removed component can be recorded. You can indicate whether the component can be serviced when the aircraft is on the ground. You can also specify the work center in which the component has to be serviced.
Use the “Propose Action” page to record the action against the removed component.
The discrepancies associated to the component replacement transaction can be viewed.
Use the “View Associated Discrepancies” page to view the discrepancies associated to the component replacement transaction.
You can generate unserviceable tags for all outgoing components.
Use the “Print Unserviceable Tags for Outgoing Components” page to print unserviceable component tags for the outgoing components.
