Updating shelf life of the part
This page allows you to update the shelf life of the part. Tell me more.
Select the “Update Shelf Life” link under the “Stock Maintenance” business component.
The “Shelf Life Update” page appears.
The system displays the following:
Date Format |
The format in which the date fields are displayed in this page. This format is displayed from the "User Preferences" based on the login user ID. In case the format is not defined, the system displays the date format as defined in the organization. |
Enter the following in the “Search Criteria” Group box:
Location |
Use the drop-down list box to select the organization unit. The system lists all the organization units defined in the “Stock Maintenance” business component, along with the option blank, and sets the login user OU as default. |
Warehouse # |
Use the drop-down list box to select the warehouse. If you are working in the Main base, the drop-down list box displays all Active warehouses from the organization unit selected in the Location field, which are not currently offline. Conversely, if you are working in a Field base, the drop-down list box displays all warehouses mapped to the offline area. The system retrieves all available parts from the warehouse that you select here. |
Part # |
The number identifying the part for which you wish to update the shelf life. (Alphanumeric, 40). You can enter the number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the part numbers similar to the value entered here. If the shelf life constituent part within a kit is entered, the system retrieves the part inside the kit, if the kit is available in the stock. |
Part Description |
The description of the part. (Alphanumeric, 150). You can enter the part description in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the balance details of parts with descriptions that are similar to the description entered here. |
Serial # |
The number identifying the serial number of the part. (Alphanumeric, 40). You can enter the number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the serial numbers similar to the value entered here. |
Lot # |
The number identifying the lot to which the part belongs. (Alphanumeric, 18). You can enter the number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the lot numbers similar to the value entered here. |
Part Type |
Use the drop-down list box to select the type of the part. The system lists the options "Raw Material", "Component", "Expendable", "Tool", "Consumable", "Kit", and "Miscellaneous". The system leaves the field blank by default. |
Component # |
The code identifying the component ID. (Alphanumeric, 90). You can enter the number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the component numbers similar to the value entered here. |
Part Category |
Use the drop-down list box to select the part category. The system lists all the quick codes of the type “Part Category” defined in the “Create Quick Codes” activity in the “Part Administration” business component, that are in “Active” status. By default, the system leaves this field blank. |
Prime Part # |
The code identifying the prime part number. (Alphanumeric, 40). You can enter the number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the prime part numbers similar to the value entered here. |
Remaining Days <= |
The remaining days for the part to get expired. (Alphanumeric, 6). |
Include non-extendable Shelf Life parts |
Select the checkbox to retrieve the parts for which the ‘Shelf Life Extendable?’ field is set as ‘No’ in the “Create Part Main Information” activity of the “Part Administration” business component. The checkbox appears unchecked, by default. |
Click the “Search” pushbutton to retrieve the search results.
The system displays the following in the “Search Results” multiline:

Enter the following in the “Search Results” multiline:
Shelf Life Reset Date |
The reset date of the shelf life. If this field is left blank, then the system considers the shelf life reset date as the current system date. Ensure that the shelf life reset date is earlier than or equal to the current system date. |
The system displays the following in the “Search Results” multiline:
Expiry Date |
The expiry date of the part. |
Shelf Life (Days) |
The period for which the part can be maintained on the shelf without any deterioration of characteristics. The system retrieves the value from the "Designed Shelf Life" field in the “Create Part Main Information” page of the “Part Administration” business component. |
Enter the follwing in the “Search Results” multiline:
New Expiry Date |
The new expiry date of the part. Mandatory. Ensure that the date entered here is later than the current system date. |
Shelf Life Renewal Comments |
Additional remarks pertaining to the renewal of shelf life of the part. Mandatory. (Alphanumeric, 255). |
Ref Doc # |
The number identifying the reference document. Alphanumeric, 40). |
The system displays the following in the “Search Results” multiline:
Warehouse # |
The number identifying the warehouse. |
Designed Shelf Life |
The maximum period of time, for which a part can be maintained on the shelf without any deterioration of its basic characteristics. |
Shelf life Unit |
The unit of measurement of the shelf life of the part. |
Component # |
The code identifying the component ID. |
Manufacturer Serial # |
The serial number of the part issued by the manufacturer. |
Manufacturer Lot # |
The lot number of the part issued by the manufacturer. |
Note: The system retrieves and displays the manufacturer serial number and manufacturer lot number from the “Inquire Warehouse Stock Balance” activity of the current business component.
Part Type |
The type of the part. |
Part Category |
The category of the part. |
Prime Part # |
The code identifying the prime part number. |
Note: The system retrieves and displays the part category and the prime part number from the “Part Administration” business component.
Last Updated Date |
The date on which the shelf life of the part was last updated. |
Renewal Count |
Indicates the shelf life renewal count of the part. |
Note: Ensure that at least one record is selected in the multiline.
The system retrieves only those parts with “Shelf Life Extendable?” set to “Yes” in the “Part Administration” business component, and with shelf life expiry date set between the current system date and the current system date + Remaining Days <=.
Click the “Compute New Expiry Date” pushbutton to compute the new expiry date of the part.
Note: Ensure that a value is entered in either Reset Date field or New Expiry Date field.
Note: If no value is entered in the “New Expiry Date” field, the new expiry date is computed as the sum of the shelf life reset date and the shelf life (in days).
Click the “Update Expiry Date” pushbutton to update the expiry date of the part.
If the shelf life is extended for a constituent part in the kit, the system updates the expiry date of the kit serial # with the least of the expiry date of its constituent parts.
The renewal count is updated as the sum of last renewal count and one, for each record selected in the multiline.
Ensure that the user is mapped to the selected warehouse defined in the “Storage Administration” business component.
To proceed, carry out the following:
Select the “Inquire Certificate Details” link at the bottom at the page, to view the certificate details of the page.
Select the “Create Interwarehouse Stock Transfer” link at the bottom of the page, to transfer stock between warehouses.

Select the “View Shelf Life Renewal History” link at the bottom of the page, to view the shelf life renewal history of the parts.
Select the “Route Stock For Repair” link at the bottom of the page, to route the unserviceable parts or components to the warehouse.
Refer to the “Component Maintenance Planning” Online help for more details.
Select the “Generate Part Barcode Label” link at the bottom of the page to generate barcode label for parts that you have selected in the “Search Results” multiline.
Updating shelf life of the part – An Overview
This activity allows you to update the shelf life of the selected part. You can update the shelf life by computing the new expiry date for the part based on the designed shelf life reset date and the shelf life of the part defined in days. You can provide any additional remarks pertaining to the renewal of the shelf life. The system displays the renewal count corresponding to each update of the shelf life.
