Mapping normal / allocation cost elements with cost center
This page allows you to map cost elements to a cost center. Tell me more.
Select the “Map Normal / Allocation Cost Elements” link under the “Cost Setup” business component.
The “Map Normal / Allocation Cost Elements” page appears.
Enter the following field:
Cost Center |
The code identifying the detail cost center to which you want to map normal or allocation cost elements (Alphanumeric, 10). |
Press <Enter> key. |

The system retrieves and displays the description of the cost center. |

Enter the following fields in the “Search Criteria” group box to search for the cost elements that must be mapped to the cost center:
Cost Element Type |
Use the drop-down list box to select the type of cost element that you want to retrieve. You can select from “Normal Cost Element”, “Allocation Cost Element” or “All”. The system displays “All” by default on launch of the page. |
Cost Element From |
The starting code in the range of cost element codes that you want to retrieve (Alphanumeric, 32). |
Note: The code entered in this field must be before or the same as the code entered in the “To” field.

The ending code in the range of cost element codes that you want to retrieve (Alphanumeric, 32). |
Click the “Search” pushbutton to retrieve the cost element details.
The system retrieves and displays the details of the cost element in the “Normal / Allocation Cost Element Details” multiline based on the search criteria entered.
Enter the following fields:
Effective Date |
Use the drop-down list box to select the date from which the mapping between the cost center and cost element would be valid. All the start dates of the MAC periods that have been defined for MAC years that are in the “Open” status will be available for selection in the chronological order. The system displays the earliest “Open” MAC period by default. |
Note: The date selected in this field must be before or the same as the date selected in the “Expiry Date” field.
Expiry Date |
Use the drop-down list box to select the date till which the mapping between the cost center and cost element would be valid. All the end dates of the MAC periods that have been defined for MAC years that are in the “Open” status will be available for selection in the chronological order. The system displays the latest “Open” MAC period by default. |
Click the “Default” pushbutton to default the effective date and the expiry date selected against all the cost elements retrieved in the multiline.
The system displays the selected effective and expiry date for all the cost elements in the multiline.
Enter the following fields in the “Normal / Allocation Cost Element Details” multiline:
Cost Element |
A unique code identifying the cost element that you want to retrieve (Alphanumeric, 32). The cost element must be in an “Active” status. |
Press <Enter> key. |

The system retrieves and displays the description and the type in the respective fields in the multiline. |

The type of the cost element. It could be “Normal Cost Element”, or “Allocation Cost Element”. |

Behavior |
Use the drop-down list box to set the behavior of the mapping. You can select from “Fixed Cost” or “Variable Cost”. The system displays “Blank” by default on launch of the page. |
Traceability |
Use the drop-down list box to set the traceability of the costs. You can select from “Direct” or “Indirect”. The system displays “Blank” by default on launch of the page. |
Check the box in the “Select” column of the multiline to mark cost elements for deletion.
Click the “Map” pushbutton to map the cost elements to the cost center.
The system saves the mapping details of the cost element and the cost center. The system also saves the date range during which the mapping is effective.
The system displays the following:
Created By |
The login ID of the user who created the mapping. |
Created Date |
The date on which the mapping was created. |
To proceed, carry out the following
Select the “Map Multiple Normal Cost Elements” link at the bottom of the page to map a range of cost elements to a range of cost centers.
Select the “Map Accounts” link at the bottom of the page to map account codes to normal cost elements.
Select the “Map Activity Cost Elements” link at the bottom of the page to map activity cost elements to cost centers.
Mapping normal / allocation cost elements with cost center – An overview
You can map normal or allocation cost elements to a cost center. You can also set a date range during which the mapping between the cost center and the cost elements is effective.
This page allows you to carry out a search to retrieve the cost elements that you want to map to the cost center. You can carry out a search by specifying the type of the cost element and the range of cost elements that you want to retrieve. The system retrieves the cost elements based on the search criteria entered. This page also gives you a facility to default the effective date range for all the retrieved cost elements. The system maps the selected cost elements to the cost center. The system also stores the login ID of the user and the system date along with the mapping details.
