Prepare Modification Plan – A summary of the activity
The aircraft, which is supplied by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), will have a prescribed configuration. The maintenance procedures to be followed for attaining an acceptable level of reliability and operating output, is also prescribed by the equipment supplier. During its operating life, in order to increase reliability and ensure maximum availability, aircraft and components are subjected to innumerable changes. Modification to an approved aircraft or component configuration or their maintenance procedures is referred to as “Engineering Change”. The engineering changes are typically triggered from the OEMs in the form of “Service Bulletins” or local aviation authorities in the form of “Airworthiness Directives” or internally generated during reliability analysis. The change communications are processed and executed through suitable engineering document.
Engineering Document - Engineering Document is a document, which contains the information about various engineering changes that must be carried out on the maintenance object (aircraft or component). Typically an engineering change involves modification of the component part numbers or change in the maintenance programs. Engineering document identifies the complete details of engineering changes that are to be carried out, including the material and resource requirements.
Modification Plan
"Modification Plan" initiates the execution planning of Engineering Document. Depending upon the compliance time frames suggested, the execution schedules of engineering documents would be planned. The execution dates are arrived at, based on the expected utilization (if the engineering document has any compliance time frames) and the availability of execution facilities and other factors.
The system will automatically calculate the earliest dates against each date based and parameter based schedule, which will aid the user to decide upon when the engineering change can be performed on the affected entity (aircraft or component). These details will be updated in the maintenance program once the engineering document is released.
