A scale represents the entire range of salaries applicable for a given grade or category. It can encompass multiple salary ranges, with each range applicable for a given time frame, in an organization. Alternatively, a scale can represent a single salary range. The scale specifies the upper and lower limits for salaries, and the increment either amount or percentage.
Example: Consider the pay scale of an employee to be $ 5000 – 1000 – 7000. Here, 5000 signifies the lower limit, 1000 the increment account and 7000 the upper limit of the salary.
The scale is later attached to an employee, based on the grade or category; therefore, a scale is directly influenced by the grade and category. Employees of various grades get different salaries. If an organization does not have grades within the categories, all the employees of a given category will be assigned the same scale.
There can be multiple scales for a category. There can also be different scales for each grade within that category. Additionally, a scale can consist of many salary ranges or tiers.
The need for a scale arises due to the following reasons:
In an organization, employees of a particular grade, within a specified category can be mapped to the respective scales during the hiring process.
There might be a need to define a new scale due to the expansion or downsizing operation, taking place in the organization.
The Edit Scale activity enables you to edit a scale associated to an organization unit Group. You can change the description of the scale, and choose to activate the scale now or activate the scale later. If activated, the scale will be available for use by other activities. You are allowed to specify whether the scale must be made available to all the employment units within the enterprise, only those to which the login user is attached or to distinct employment units.
Translation of record in chosen language: You can also translate the details into any of the available languages. These languages must have been specified during the installation of the application.
If there are four available languages, and you add a scale in German, the system replicates the scale record three times , each of which it considers as French, English and Italian records.
When you access these records for the first time, the description is still in the login language German. You can
Manually translate the description of the scale, into the chosen language.
Edit all values in the chosen language, except the code of the record. Note that these values are available in the chosen language.
