Competency, Class and Element: Competency is the measure by which you evaluate the performance potential of employees. Competency indicates the quantum of skills, knowledge and behavioral traits in an employee that facilitate better performance in a task or assignment. It has substituted the term skills, reflecting recent HR thinking where skills constitute only a portion of competency.
Competency is made of elements. A competency element refers to any unique, identifiable and ratable skill, knowledge or behavioral trait. Competency class refers to any set of closely related competency elements that can be grouped under a single class.. Knowledge, skills or behavioral traits are some examples of competency classes.
A group of related competency classes make up a Competency, required for effective performance in a task, or assignment.
The Viewing Competency Class activity: This activity enables you to view the details of a competency class. To select the required competency class record to view, you are to first specify the competency definition unit and select the language in which you want to view the records. The competency definition unit indicates the description of the organization unit in which the competency component is deployed. Competency definitions in this organization unit can be made applicable for all the organization units interacting with it. The system fetches the competency class record from the records available for the specified competency definition unit.
To select the competency class record you want to view, the system facilitates two options: Direct Entry and Search Criteria. You can use the direct entry option, if you know the complete code of the competency class. Otherwise, you can use the search criteria option to specify search criteria for the competency class details and select the required record.
Following selection of the required competency class record, you can view the details of the selected competency class. You can view the competency class details either in the login language or in any of the available languages.
The details you can view comprise
The unique code of the competency class.
The short and long descriptions of the competency class.
The Active/Inactive status of the competency class.
The additional comments specified about the competency class.
Active/Inactive Status: Active status indicates that the competency class can be used by other activities. If the competency class details are in inactive status, it indicates that the competency class cannot be used in other activities.
