Selecting part and component configuration for approval
This page allows you to select a part number or a component for approving or canceling the configuration details. Tell me more
Select the “Approve Part and Component Configuration” link under the “Configuration” business component.
The “Approve Part & Component Configuration” page appears.
Enter the following filter criteria in the “Search criteria” group box to search for the part or component configuration. Data entry in the following fields is optional:

Use the drop-down list box to select the configuration for approval or cancellation. The system provides the following options: |

Leave this field blank to retrieve both part and component configuration details for approval or cancellation. The system leaves the field blank by default. |

Component # |
The component for which the configuration details are to be approved or cancelled. You can enter the component ID in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the component configurations that are similar to the value entered here. |
Part # |
The part for which the configuration details are to be approved or cancelled. You can enter the part number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the part configurations that are similar to the value entered here. |
Serial # |
The serial number of the component for which the configuration details are to be approved or cancelled. You can enter the serial number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the component configurations whose serial numbers are similar to the value entered here. |
Click the “Search” pushbutton to display the search results in the “Search Results” multiline.
Note: The system lists only those configurations that are in “Fresh” status.
If all the search criteria fields are left blank, the system lists all the configurations defined in the organizational unit in the multiline.
Enter the following fields in the “Search Results” multiline, to selectively process the configurations listed in the multiline:

Use the drop-down list box to indicate whether the configuration details must be baselined or not. The system provides the options “Yes” and “No” and sets the field to “Yes” by default. |
Note: You can baseline the configuration only when the configuration is selected for approval. The system maintains a copy of the baselined version of the configuration details with a new revision number. If a baseline version already exists for a configuration, the previous version is also retained with the respective revision number and the status set as “Revised”.
Approve Lower Levels? |
Use the drop-down list box to approve the configuration details of all the subsequent levels of the part number and component configuration. |
Note: Ensure that you have the required access rights to approve all subsequent levels of the part number and component configuration. If both the “Approve Lower Levels” and “Base Line Revision” fields are set to “Yes”, the system maintains a copy of all the configurations of the part numbers and component IDs at all levels with their respective revision numbers.
The system fills in the following fields in the “Search Results” multiline on clicking the “Search” pushbutton.
Component # |
The number identifying the component for which the configuration must be approved or cancelled. This field appears blank if you have searched only for part configuration. |
Part # |
The part number for which the configuration must be approved or cancelled. If you have searched for component configuration, this field will contain the part to which the component belongs. |
Serial # |
The serial number of the component for which the configuration must be approved or cancelled. |
New Revision # |
The revision number of the configuration which is in “Fresh” status. The baseline version will be maintained with this revision number. |
Current Revision # |
The revision number of the configuration on approval, which is in “Active” status. |
Comments |
Any additional remarks pertaining to the approval or cancellation of part or component configuration. |
Enter the following field if you wish to process the configurations in bulk:
Select All |
Check this box to approve or cancel all the configurations listed in the multiline. When this box is checked, the system sets the status as “Active” for all the approved configurations, and the status as “Cancelled” for all cancelled configurations, irrespective of the configuration selected in the multiline. |
Note: If the “Select All” field is not checked, ensure that atleast one row is selected in the multiline.
Check the box in the “Select” column of the multiline to select the row containing the configuration, for authorization or cancellation, or for viewing the modification history.
Note: If the component condition is not "Unserviceable" or “Phased-Out”, you can approve the part configuration and component configuration, even if the component is not attached to any mandatory position code and the attachment status for these mandatory position codes is "Unknown", "New" or "Error".
The system ensures the following while approving the part and component configuration:
The component ID should not be associated to the “Inactive” position codes.
If “Approve Lower level” field is set to “Yes”, the system ensures the above condition for lower level configurations also.
Approve configuration(s)
Click the “Approve Configuration (s)” pushbutton to authorize the configuration (s) selected in the multiline.
Note: For the part or component configuration the system ensures that there are no revision number greater than the current revision number in “Active” status.
When you define the Piece part with ‘Inherit Changes to Component’ check box checked in the “Build Part Configuration” page, on Approval of Part Configuration, the system inherits the Piece part information to the existing Component Configuration.
When user defines the Piece part with ‘Inherit Changes to Component’ check box checked in the “Build Part Configuration” page, and if the Piece Part is already available in the component configuration with same Position #, but different Reference Part # or vice-versa, on Approval of Part Configuration, the system inserts the Piece part information in the new line to the existing Component Configuration.
Note: The Piece Part is inherited to the component based on the combination of Part and Operator #.
If new position is inserted, the system inherits the Sequence # of the newly inserted position from Part to the corresponding applicable Components, if the process parameter ‘Inherit Sequence of Position Code from Part to applicable Components?’ is set as ‘1’ in the “Define Process Entities” activity of the “Common Master” business component and if “Inherit Changes to Component” checkbox is checked in the “Build Part Configuration” screen.
If existing positions are re-sequenced, the system inherits the modified Sequence # of positions from Part to the corresponding applicable Components, if the process parameter ‘Inherit Sequence of Position Code from Part to applicable Components?’ is set as ‘1’ in the “Define Process Entities” activity of the “Common Master” business component and if “Inherit Changes to Component” checkbox is checked in the “Build Part Configuration” screen.
Cancel configuration(s)
Click the “Cancel Configuration (s)” pushbutton to cancel the configuration (s) selected in the multiline.

Select the “View Affected Entities” link at the bottom of the page to view the entities affected by the modification of part and component configurations.
Selecting part number and component configuration for approval – An overview
This page allows you to select a part number or a component for approving or canceling the configuration details. You can carry out a search based on the filter criteria such as the part number, the component ID or the serial number. The details of the selected configuration, such as the component ID, part number, serial number, new revision number, current revision number and comments are displayed.
You can activate or cancel the configurations in bulk or select a particular configuration to be activated or cancelled. The status of the configuration changes to “Active” or “Cancelled” depending upon the action performed.
You are also provided with the option of setting the configuration as a baseline configuration. For a baseline configuration, the system maintains the configuration details with a new revision number in the history for future reference. If a baseline version already exists for a configuration, it will also be retained with the respective revision number and with the status set as “Revised”.
In this page, you can also approve the configurations at the lower levels of the part number and component.

A configuration can be set as baseline configuration. If the configuration is set as baselined, the system maintains the configuration details with a new revision number for future reference. If baseline version already exists for the configuration, it will also be retained with the respective revision numbers and with the status set as “Revised”. You can baseline the configuration only when the configuration is selected for approval.
Set the “Base Line Revision” drop-down list to “Yes” if you wish to baseline the configuration.
Set the “Base Line Revision” drop-down list to “No” if you wish do not wish to baseline the configuration.
Approve lower level configurations
You can approve the configuration details of all the subsequent levels of the part or component configuration.
Set the “Approve Lower levels?” drop-down list box to approve the configuration details of all the subsequent levels of the part or component configuration.
Approve part or component configuration
You can approve the part or component configurations that are in “Fresh” status. The configurations in fresh status on approval attain the “Active” status.
Click the “Approve Configuration (s)” to approve the part and component configuration(s).
Cancel part or component configuration
You can cancel the part or component configurations that are in “Fresh” status. The system sets the part and component configuration to “Cancelled” status.
Click the “Cancel Configuration (s)” pushbutton to cancel the part and component configuration(s).
