The “Approve Part & Component Configuration” page appears.

Search Option

Use the drop-down list box to select the configuration for approval or cancellation. The system provides the following options:

  • Part Configuration – Select this option to retrieve the part configuration details for approval or cancellation.

  • Component Configuration – Select this option to retrieve the component configuration details for approval or cancellation.

Leave this field blank to retrieve both part and component configuration details for approval or cancellation. The system leaves the field blank by default.

Component #

The component for which the configuration details are to be approved or cancelled. You can enter the component ID in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the component configurations that are similar to the value entered here.

Part #

The part for which the configuration details are to be approved or cancelled. You can enter the part number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the part configurations that are similar to the value entered here.

Serial #

The serial number of the component for which the configuration details are to be approved or cancelled. You can enter the serial number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the component configurations whose serial numbers are similar to the value entered here.

Note: The system lists only those configurations that are in “Fresh” status.

If all the search criteria fields are left blank, the system lists all the configurations defined in the organizational unit in the multiline.

Base Line Revision

Use the drop-down list box to indicate whether the configuration details must be baselined or not. The system provides the options “Yes” and “No” and sets the field to “Yes” by default.

Note: You can baseline the configuration only when the configuration is selected for approval. The system maintains a copy of the baselined version of the configuration details with a new revision number. If a baseline version already exists for a configuration, the previous version is also retained with the respective revision number and the status set as “Revised”.

Approve Lower Levels?

Use the drop-down list box to approve the configuration details of all the subsequent levels of the part number and component configuration.

Note: Ensure that you have the required access rights to approve all subsequent levels of the part number and component configuration. If both the “Approve Lower Levels” and “Base Line Revision” fields are set to “Yes”, the system maintains a copy of all the configurations of the part numbers and component IDs at all levels with their respective revision numbers.

The system fills in the following fields in the “Search Results” multiline on clicking the “Search” pushbutton.

Component #

The number identifying the component for which the configuration must be approved or cancelled. This field appears blank if you have searched only for part configuration.

Part #

The part number for which the configuration must be approved or cancelled. If you have searched for component configuration, this field will contain the part to which the component belongs.

Serial #

The serial number of the component for which the configuration must be approved or cancelled.

New Revision #

The revision number of the configuration which is in “Fresh” status. The baseline version will be maintained with this revision number.

Current Revision #

The revision number of the configuration on approval, which is in “Active” status.

Comments

Select All

Check this box to approve or cancel all the configurations listed in the multiline. When this box is checked, the system sets the status as “Active” for all the approved configurations, and the status as “Cancelled” for all cancelled configurations, irrespective of the configuration selected in the multiline.

Note: If the “Select All” field is not checked, ensure that atleast one row is selected in the multiline.

Note: If the component condition is not "Unserviceable" or “Phased-Out”, you can approve the part configuration and component configuration, even if the component is not attached to any mandatory position code and the attachment status for these mandatory position codes is "Unknown", "New" or "Error".

Selecting part number and component configuration for approval – An overview

Approve Part and Component Configuration - A summary of the activity

This page allows you to select a part number or a component for approving or canceling the configuration details. You can carry out a search based on the filter criteria such as the part number, the component ID or the serial number. The details of the selected configuration, such as the component ID, part number, serial number, new revision number, current revision number and comments are displayed.

You can activate or cancel the configurations in bulk or select a particular configuration to be activated or cancelled. The status of the configuration changes to “Active” or “Cancelled” depending upon the action performed.

You are also provided with the option of setting the configuration as a baseline configuration. For a baseline configuration, the system maintains the configuration details with a new revision number in the history for future reference. If a baseline version already exists for a configuration, it will also be retained with the respective revision number and with the status set as “Revised”.

In this page, you can also approve the configurations at the lower levels of the part number and component.
