Configuration - An overview
This business component facilitates definition of the aircraft & component structure. Generic configuration can be defined for models & part numbers, then these structures can be associated to the aircraft & components respectively. Variations to the generic configuration can be tracked for each entity separately.
The airline industry is characterized by the prevalence of a large number of similar maintainable assets – large fleets of identical aircraft (model and make), similar components which can be interchanged across models etc. are common. ‘Configuration’ essentially refers to the bill of material for an aircraft. It represents the various components present in the aircraft and the positions where these can be fitted.
Configuration definitions can happen at two major levels:
Generic configuration definitions, at Model/Part number level, which can be inherited across similar aircraft/component respectively.
Entity specific configuration definitions, which enables the tracking of aircraft/component specific variations from the generic structure.
This business component helps you to define configuration for entities such as Aircraft Model, Aircraft, Part and Component. Configuration Rules can be defined for each of the above entities and piece parts can also be identified. In addition to these, you can identify the parts that must be included in the Configuration Deviation List and Minimum Equipment List.
The approval of configurations is also facilitated.
