Analyzing part classification
This page allows you to analyze the part classification details. Tell me more.
Select the “Analyze Part Classification” link under the “Stock Analysis” business component.
The “Analyze Part Classification” page appears.
The system, displays the following field:
Date Format |
The format in which the date fields are displayed in this page. This format is displayed from the “User Preferences” business component based on the login user ID. In case the format is not defined, the system displays the date format from the “Enterprise Modeling” business component by default. |
The system displays the following in the “Analysis Panning Details” group box on clicking the “Update Stock Analysis” pushbutton:
Analysis # |
The unique number identifying the part classification analysis for the parts in the organization. The system generates this number based on the numbering type selected in this page. |
Enter the following:
Numbering Type |
Use the drop-down list box to select the numbering pattern to be followed for generating the analysis number. Mandatory. The system displays all the “Active” numbering types as defined in the “Create Numbering Type” activity of the “Document Numbering Class” business component for the transaction type “Stock Analysis”. |
Check the appropriate “Analysis Type”, to specify the type of classification method for the stock:
Check this box to select the ABC Analysis method for the parts in the inventory. By default the system displays this field as checked. |

Check this box to select the FSN Analysis method for the parts in the inventory. |

Check this box to select the XYZ Analysis method for the parts in the inventory. |

Check this box to select the VED Analysis method for the parts in the inventory. |
Note: It is mandatory to select an analysis method for the parts in the inventory
Note: A part can be classified as “Vital” or “Essential” or “Desirable” only in the “Part Administration” business component.
Note: The “VED Class” box must be checked only if you wish to generate the stock analysis report for all the parts, which are classified as VED or for a combination of classification methods with VED classification.
Enter the following:
Analysis Level |
Use the drop-down list box to select the level at which the part classification analysis must be done. Mandatory. The system lists the following options: Warehouse - Select this option if you wish to perform the analysis at the warehouse level. Location – Select this option if you wish to perform the analysis at the location level. Across Locations – Select this option if you wish to perform the analysis across locations. By default the system displays “Location”. |
Result Display Option |
Use the drop-down list box to specify the parts for which the result must be displayed. The system lists the following options: All Parts – Select this option if you wish to view the results for all parts. Revised Class Parts – Select this option if you wish to view the results only for revised class parts. By default the system displays “All Parts”. |
Planned By |
The login ID of the user who planned the part classification analysis (Alphanumeric, 30). Ensure that the user is an active employee as defined in the “Create Employee File” activity of the “Employee Information” business component. |
The system displays the following:

The name of the user who planned the part classification analysis. |
Enter the following:
Location |
Use the drop-down list box to select the location for which the part classification analysis must be done. Enter this field only when “Analysis Level” is set to “Location” or “Warehouse”. The system sets this field as blank when “Analysis Level” is set to “Across Locations”. |
Warehouse # |
Use the drop-down list box to select the warehouse for which the part classification analysis must be done. The system displays all the active warehouses as defined in the “Create Warehouse Information” activity of the “Storage Administration” business component. Enter this field only when “Analysis Level” is set as “Warehouse”. The system sets this field as blank when “Analysis Level” is set to “Across Locations”. |

Enter the following fields in the “Part Details” group box:
Part Category |
Use the drop-down list box to select the part category for which the analysis must be performed. The system lists all the quick codes of type “Part Category” as defined in the “Part Administration” business component. By default the system leaves the field blank. |
Part Group |
Use the drop-down list box to select the part group for which the analysis must be performed. The system lists all the part groups as defined in the “Part Administration” business component. By default the system leaves the field blank. |
Check the appropriate “Part Type” to specify the type of part to be considered for the part classification analysis:
All |
To select all the parts in the inventory for analysis. |
Raw Material |
To select parts of type “Raw Material” in the inventory for analysis. |
Tool |
To select parts of type “Tool” in the inventory for analysis. |
Kit |
To select parts of type “Kit” in the inventory for analysis. |
Expendable |
To select parts of type “Expendable” in the inventory for analysis. |
Component |
To select parts of type “Component” in the inventory for analysis. |
Consumable |
To select parts of type “Consumable” in the inventory for analysis. |
Miscellaneous |
To select parts of type “Miscellaneous” in the inventory for analysis. |
Enter the following field in the “Part Details” group box:
Expense Type |
Use the drop-down list box to select the type of expense for the part. The system lists the options “Capital” and “Revenue”. |
Enter the following fields in the “Analysis Period” group box:
Period Type |
Use the drop-down list box to select the period for which the part classification analysis must be done. Mandatory. The system lists the options "Financial Year", "Financial Period" and "General". By default the system sets the field to “General”. |
Financial Year |
Use the drop-down list box to select the financial year for which the part classification analysis must be done. The systems lists all the financial years as defined in the “Accounting Setup” business component that are earlier than or the same as the current system date. |
Financial Period |
Use the drop-down list box to select the financial period in the selected financial year for which the part classification analysis must be done. The system lists all the financial periods defined for the selected financial year. |
From Date |
The starting date, in the range of dates, for which the part classification analysis must be done (Date Format). |
To Date |
The ending date, in the range of dates, till which the part classification analysis must be done (Date Format). Ensure that this date is not earlier than “From Date” and not later than the current system date. |
Note: Ensure that “From Date” and “To Date” are entered if “Period Type” is set as “General”.
Note: XYZ Analysis is based on the current system date. Hence, for XYZ Analysis, the financial year, financial period and the date range will not be considered.
Click the “Simulate Analysis” pushbutton to perform the part classification analysis.
Note: Ensure that at least one analysis type is selected before simulation. You cannot select more than two analysis types at a time.
The system records all the part classification details specified and displays the newly created part classification details along with the current part classification details from the “Part Administration” business component in the “Analysis Results” multiline.
The system performs the following on clicking the Simulate Analysis pushbutton
Performs the analysis for the selected financial period, only if the analysis for the previous period is done.
If the selected period is the first period defined in the “Accounting Setup” business component, then period opening quantity and period opening value for the part will be considered as zero.
Performs the “ABC Classification” and “XYZ Classification” for customer-owned and non-valuated stock only if the attributes “Customer Owned” and “Valuated” is set as “Yes” in the “User Defined Stock Status” business component.
For the selected period, the system calculates the total receipt quantity and receipt value for the parts from the “Stock Receipt”, “Goods Receipt” and “Loan and Rental Receipt" business components. For calculation of total receipt quantity and total receipt value, all the receipts in “Confirmed” status, goods receipt in “Moved” and “Partially Moved” status and loans receipt in “Confirmed” status are considered.
For the selected period, the system calculates the total issued quantity and issued value for the parts from the “Stock Issue” business component. For calculation of total issued quantity and total issued value, all the issue documents in “Confirmed” status are considered.
For the selected period, the system calculates the total returned quantity and returned value for the parts from the “Stock Return” business component. For calculation of total returned quantity and total returned value, all the return documents in “Confirmed” status are considered.
For the selected period, the system calculates the adjustment quantity and adjustment value for the parts from the “Stock Correction” activity of the “Stock Maintenance“ business component. For calculation of adjustment quantity and adjustment value, all the stock correction documents in “Authorized” status are considered.
The system classifies the part in the inventory based on the following conditions
ABC Classification
For ABC Classification, the system calculates the following:

Note: The valuation method for a part of expense type “Revenue” could be Acquisition Cost or Issue Cost or Standard Cost based on the option set in the “Valuation Method For the Revenue Type Components” field in the “Set Stock Analysis Parameter ” activity.
Note: The valuation method for a part of expense type other than “Revenue” would be based on the valuation method set in the “Stock Maintenance” business component.
The part in the inventory is classified as ”A”, “B” or “C”, based on the limiting percentage of the consumption value of the part as set in the “Settings For ABC Analysis” field in the “Set Stock Analysis Parameter” activity.
FSN Classification
For FSN Classification, the system calculates the following:

The part in the inventory is classified based on the limiting percentage of the consumption rate and average stay of the part as set in the “Settings For FSN Analysis” field in the “Set Stock Analysis Parameter” activity.
Note: For a part, if the consumption rate is not available, then the part will be classified as “Fast” or “Slow” or “Non moving” based on the average stay of the part in the inventory.
XYZ Classification
For XYZ Classification, the system calculates the following:
Current Stock Value = Current Stock Quantity of the part “*” Unit Rate of the part
Note: The valuation method for a part of expense type “Revenue” could be Acquisition Cost or Issue Cost or Standard Cost based on the option set in the “Valuation Method For the Revenue Type Components” field in the “Set Stock Analysis Parameter” activity.
Note: The system considers the valuation method for a part of expense type other “Revenue” as defined in the “Stock Maintenance” business component.
The part in the inventory is classified based on the limiting percentage of the current stock value of the part as set in the “Settings For XYZ Analysis” field in the “Set Stock Analysis Parameter” activity.
The system displays the following fields in the “Analysis Results” multiline:

The current ABC classification analysis for the stock as defined in the “Part Administration” business component. |

The current XYZ classification analysis for the stock as defined in the “Part Administration” business component. |
XYZ Class New |
The new XYZ classification analysis performed on the stock. |
FSN Class Current |
The current FSN classification analysis for the stock as defined in the “Part Administration” business component. |
FSN Class New |
The new FSN classification analysis performed on the stock. |
VED Class Current |
The current VED classification analysis for the stock as defined in the “Part Administration” business component. |
Note: A part can be classified as “Vital” or “Essential” or “Desirable” only while inducting the part in the system, in the “Part Administration” business component.
Part Type |
The type of the part which could be “Raw Material”, “Tool”, “Kit”, “Expendable”, “Component”, “Consumable” or “Miscellaneous”. |
Part Category |
The category of the part. |
Enter the following field in the “Other Details” group box:

Any further information pertaining to the part classification analysis (Alphanumeric, 255). Zoom facility available. |
Check the box in the “Select” column of the multiline, to mark a part for updating the stock analysis details in the “Part Administration” business component.
Click the “Update Stock Analysis” pushbutton to update the stock analysis details.
The system updates the part analysis classification details in the “Part Administration” business component.
Note: Ensure that the simulation analysis is performed before updating the stock analysis.
Note: If the “Part Type” is been selected, then the system updates the analysis details for the part classification in the “Part Administration” business component, only if the option of "Part Filters to Update Part Classification" is set as “Allowed” in the “Set Parameters for stock Analysis” activity.
To proceed, carry out the following
Select the “Generate Stock Analysis Report” link at the bottom of the page, to generate the stock analysis report.
Select the “View Stock Analysis” link at the bottom of the page, to select the analysis document for viewing the details.
Select the “View Analysis Graph” link at the bottom of the page, to view the stock analysis graph.
Analyzing part classification – An overview
This page allows you to perform part classification analysis of the parts in the inventory. The system generates a unique number for the analysis document generated and updates the details of the part classification in the “Part Administration” business component.
You can perform the part classification analysis based on the part category, group and type. You can also specify the financial year or financial period or any date range for which you wish to perform the stock analysis. The analysis can be conducted across locations, for a selected location or for a selected warehouse.
The system updates the details in the “Part Administration” business component only if the option “Part Filters to Update Part Classification” is set as “Allowed” in the “Set Stock Analysis Parameter” activity.

Specify the numbering type for the stock analysis document
You can specify the numbering type for the stock analysis document based on the login organization unit and the numbering patterns defined in the “Document Numbering Class” business component.
Set the appropriate numbering type in the “Numbering Type” field for the stock analysis document.
Specify the analysis type for stock analysis
You can specify the analysis type to be used for performing stock analysis.
Check the “ABC Class” box under “Analysis Type”, to perform the ABC part classification analysis.
Check the “FSN Class” box under “Analysis Type”, to perform the FSN part classification analysis.
Check the “XYZ Class” box under “Analysis Type”, to perform the XYZ part classification analysis.
You can specify the level in the organization for which the stock analysis is to be performed. The analysis can be performed at the Warehouse level, Location level or across locations.
Select “Warehouse” in the “Analysis Level” drop-down list box, to perform the analysis at the warehouse level.
Select “Location” in the “Analysis Level” drop-down list box, to perform the analysis at the location level.
Select “Across Locations” in the “Analysis Level” drop-down list box, to perform the analysis across locations.
Specify option for displaying analysis results
You can specify whether the analysis results must be displayed for all parts or for revised class parts.
Set the “Result Display Option” field to “All parts”, to view the analysis results for all parts.
Set the “Result Display Option” field to “Revised Class Parts” to view the analysis results only for revised class parts.
Specify the part type and expense type for analysis
You can specify the part type and the expense type for which the stock analysis is to be performed.
Check the appropriate boxes in the “Part Type” group box.
Select the expense type of the part as “Revenue” or “Capital”.
You can specify the period for which the stock analysis is to be performed.
Select the “Period Type” as “Financial Year” to perform the analysis for a selected financial year.
Select the “Period Type” as “Financial Period” to perform the analysis for a selected financial period.
Select the “Period Type” as “General”, if the analysis is not for a specific financial year or period.
Simulate the analysis and update the analysis details
You can simulate the stock analysis performed and update the details of the simulated part classification in the “Part Administration” business component.
Click the “Simulate Analysis” pushbutton to view the results of the stock analysis performed.
The system displays the analysis results in the multiline.
Check the box in the first column of the “Analysis Results” multiline, to mark the part number for which stock analysis details must be updated.
Click the “Update Stock Analysis” pushbutton to update the stock analysis details of the selected part.
