Create Component Family – A summary of the activity
This activity enables you to create a component family based on certain criteria and associate components to it.
A component family is identified with a unique code and description. You can define a component family with certain parameters and associate it to an ATA chapter and a zone. You can also create a component family by copying the details of an existing component family.
A component attached to a component family inherits the parameters and ATA chapter defined for the component family. For example, if Engine-1 and Engine-2 are attached to the “Engines” component family, all the parameters and other attributes that are defined for the “Engines” component family are inherited by Engine-1 and Engine-2. This simplifies the tedious process of defining the parameters and other attributes for each and every component that is being defined.
You can define the type and category of the component family. A component family can contain the component be of type “Engine”, “APU”, “Landing Gear”, or “Others”. A component family can be classified as rotable, repairable or controllable and can be further categorized as
cargo components,
components belonging to aircraft that can fly at a height lesser than the reduced vertical separation limit (RVSM) and
components that are part of the minimum equipment list (MEL) of the aircraft.
Note: Components that are attached to the component family inherit the type and category defined for the component family.

What you can do in this activity
Categorize the component family
Identify different types of parameters for a component family
The component family can be of classified as “Rotable”, “Repairable” or “Controllable”.
Go to “Create Component Family” page.
Select the appropriate option in the “Part Classification” drop-down list box to classify the component family as rotable, repairable or controllable.
Categorize the component family
The component can be further categorized as “Cargo”, “RVSM” or “MEL”.
Go to “Create Component Family” page.
Check the “Cargo” box to specify that the components belongs only to a cargo aircraft.
Check the “RVSM” box to specify that the components belongs to the aircraft which can fly at a height lesser than the minimum vertical separation limit.
Check the “MEL” box to specify the components that are a part of the minimum equipment list of the aircraft.
Identify different types of parameters for a component family
Parameters such as technical specification, attribute, range and consumption parameters can be specified for a component family.
Use the “Edit Technical & Attribute Parameters” page to specify the technical and attribute parameters for the component family.
Use the “Edit Consumption & Range Parameters“ page to the consumption and range parameters for the component family.
