Succession Planning – An Overview

The need for succession planning can be realized when an employee quits an organization or when the employee has been given some other assignment. The strength of an organization is its employees.  We cannot recruit any candidate to fill the gap. To choose the right candidate, with the required caliber, within a limited time, succession planning is necessary. Succession planning is like a backup for the human resources. Vacancies may arise at any point of time in an organization. This component takes care of the planning of the appropriate successors for the employees who may quit the organization. Succession planning can be done on employee basis or it can be done for a position. Through this component , you can also authorize the succession plan that has been drawn. You can also reject the succession plan.

Succession Plan for employee:Through this activity, you can create a succession plan for an employee assignment. Creating a succession plan refers to nominating one or more successors for the employee assignment. You can also edit/view/delete a succession plan after it has been created, provided it has not been authorized.

Defining Planning Criteria: Planning criteria is cluster of the set of criteria/qualities based on which the successors can be decided. To define a new planning criteria, select the required criterion and give a unique name. Save the planning criteria.

Authorize Succession Plan for Employee: Through this activity you can authorize the succession plan. You can also reject the succession plan, if necessary. You can also edit the details before authorization.

Succession Plan for Position: Through this activity you can draw a succession plan for a position. You can also edit/view/delete the succession plan after it has been created, provided it has not been authorized.

Authorize Succession Plan for Position: Through this activity you can authorize the succession plan for a particular position. You can also reject the succession plan for a position, if necessary. You can also edit the details before authorization.
