Creating professional tax rate table
Select the “Create Professional Tax Rate Table” option from the left pane.
The “Create Professional Tax Rate Table” page appears.
The system displays the following
Date Format |
The date format that is applicable to the login user. |
Enter the following
Tax Setup Unit |
From the drop-down list box, select the tax setup unit for which you require to record the professional tax amount. |
Professional Tax Region |
From the drop-down list box, select the region for which you require to record the professional tax amount. |
Professional Tax Unit |
From the drop-down list box, select the professional tax unit

Deduction Frequency |
From the drop-down list box, select the frequency at which the professional tax amount must be deducted from the gross salary. You can select any one of the following options § Monthly § Quarterly § Half Yearly § Yearly |
To define professional tax rates
Enter the following in the multiline.
Gross From |
The lower limit of a specific range of gross salary for which the professional tax rate must be defined. |
Gross To |
The upper limit of a specific range of gross salary for which the professional tax rate must be defined. |
Professional Tax Value |
The amount of professional tax that you define for the specific range or slab of gross salary. This value will be deducted from the gross salary on a monthly/quarterly/half yearly/yearly basis depending on the frequency selected. |
Enter the following below the multiline.
New Effective From |
The date from which the tax rates that have been defined are brought into effect. |
Select the “Save” pushbutton to save the professional tax rates that have been defined for different slab of gross salaries.
The system displays the following.

A unique serial number to identify each record. |
Effective From |
The date from which the professional tax rates are brought into effect. |
Effective To |
The date until which the professional tax rates are effective. |
To define professional tax rates for exceptional months
Enter the following.
Serial No. |
From the drop-down list box, select the serial number of the record in the upper multiline. |
Enter the following in the multiline.
Month |
The exceptional month for which you require to define a different professional tax rate. |
Professional Tax Value |
The amount of professional tax that has to be deducted during the specific month. |
Select the “Save Month Values” to save the exceptional months for which you have specified different professional tax rates.
To edit the professional tax rates
Select the Tax Setup Unit for which you require to edit the professional tax rates.
From the drop-down list box, select the Professional Tax Region for which you require to edit the professional tax rates.
From the drop-down list box, select the professional tax unit.
From the drop-down list box, select the Deduction Frequency for which you require to edit the professional tax rates.
Select the “Get Details” pushbutton.
You can retrieve all the range of gross salaries with their professional tax rates in the multiline.
Edit the rates wherever required.
Note: You cannot edit the professional tax rates defined for the gross salaries that are used for payroll processing.
To indicate whether a history of the modifications must be maintained
Enter the following
Modification Option |
Select “Correct” or “Update” from the drop-down list box. § If you select “Correct”, the history of modifications is not stored by the system. The record is merely corrected, and the system treats the modification date of the record to be the same as “Effective Date“ you specified when you created the record § “Update”, the system stores the history of modifications, by inserting a new record to track each change to the record. The previous record is internally closed. When you select “Update”, you must also enter the date from which the changes must become effective. |
New Effective Date |
If the edit option you chose is “Update”, specify the date from which the current modification will be in effect. The system maintains the “Effective To Date” of the previous record to be one day less than the “New Effective Date”. |
Select the “Save” pushbutton to save the edited details.
To edit the professional rates for specific months if required
From the drop-down list box, select the serial number of the record to be edited.
Select the “Get Month Values” pushbutton.
Edit the professional tax rate value of the required month.
Select the “Save Month Values” to save the edited details.
