Create Competency Element  A summary of the activity

Competency is the measure by which you evaluate the performance potential of employees. Competency indicates the quantum of skills, knowledge and behavioral traits in an employee that facilitate better performance in a task or assignment. It has substituted the term skills, reflecting recent HR thinking, where skills constitute only a portion of competency.

Competency, Class and Elements: Competency Class is made of elements. A competency element refers to any unique, identifiable and ratable skill, knowledge or behavioral trait.

Competency class refers to any set of closely related competency elements that can be grouped under a single category. Examples of competency elements could be Self-Motivation, Interpersonal Skills and Positive Attitude. These elements are closely related, and can be grouped under a single competency class Behavioral Traits.

A group of related competency classes make up a Competency, required for effective performance in a task, or assignment.

The Create Competency Element Page: The Create Competency Element activity enables you to define a new competency element. You can define each competency element with a unique code and description.  You can also specify to which competency class the competency element must belong.

To create and define a competency element, you are to specify the following details:

Minimum Level of Proficiency: You can specify the minimum level of proficiency desired for the competency element. The maximum proficiency level must be already specified in Process Parameters. The level of proficiency you indicate for the element must be meaningful in relation to the other elements of the same competency class.

Active or Inactive: You can decide whether the competency element is to be in the Active status, which means that the element can be used by other activities.

Trainable: If you indicate it as trainable, this competency element will be made available to the Training component as a competency element that necessitates training.
