Note: It is mandatory to specify values for the  “Competency Definition Unit”, “Competency Class Description”, “Competency Element Code” “Competency Element Short Description” details and “Minimum Desired Level”.

Competency Definition Unit

Select the organization unit in which you must create and define competency elements. Tell me more

Competency Class Description

The description of the competency class to which the competency element being defined should belong. The drop-down list box displays all the descriptions of the competency classes that have been defined through the “Create Competency Class” activity in the organization unit.

From the drop down list box, select the required competency class to which the competency element being defined must belong. By default, the drop-down list box displays with select.

Competency Element Code

A unique code to identify the competency element.

Competency Element Short Description

A brief description of the competency element. For short description, you can specify an abbreviation for the competency element description, a short form of it etc. For example, if the description is “Communication Skills”, you can specify the short description in an abbreviated form as “CMN Skills” or “Comn. Skills, Comcn. Skills etc.

Competency Element Long Description

An elaborate description of the competency element. For example, if you have already specified the short description as “CMN Skills”, you can specify the long description as “Communication Skills with respect to legal documentation” or “Communication Skills with regard to telemarketing” etc., to make the description more clear.

 

By default, the value entered for short description will be displayed in this field if you do not enter any value.

Inactive

Indicate if you want the details of the competency element to be active and available for use in other activities. If not, select the check box.

By default, the status will be active.

Trainable

Indicate if the competency element is trainable or otherwise by selecting the check box. Select the check box to indicate that the competency element is trainable, blank check box indicates the competency element is not trainable.

A quality such as “Integrity” must be inherent in employees and is non-trainable. A competency element such as “Drafting Proposals” could be an example of a trainable skill.

Minimum Desired Level

The minimum desired level(MDL) of a competency indicates the minimum extent to which the competency must be present in an employee. For example, if the MDL for the competency “Communication Skills” is 3 or 4, it indicates the minimum extent to which the competency must be present in the employee. In this example, the maximum value of the competency is set as 5, in the system parameters.

Maximum Level

The maximum set value of the proficiency level of the competency element. The system displays the maximum level set in the process parameters during deployment of the competency component.

For example, the proficiency levels can be rated on a numeric scale of 0-100, 0-120 or 0-150 etc., wherein 100, 120 or 150 are the maximum levels set in the process parameters.
