Maintain external stock allocation
This page allows you to allocate a storage address, for stock received from the supplier or customer. Tell me more.
Select the “Maintain External Stock Allocation” link in the “Select Warehouse” page.
The “Maintain External Stock Allocation” page appears.
The system displays the following fields in the “Warehouse Information” group box:
Warehouse # |
A unique number identifying the warehouse. |
Warehouse Type |
The type of warehouse, which could be either “Normal” or “Free”. |
Enter the following fields in the “Warehouse Information” group box:
WH – Zone # |
Use the drop-down list box to specify the zone. If the warehouse type is “Normal”, the system lists all the active zones valid for the specified warehouse. If the warehouse type is "Free", the system leaves this field blank. |
Bin # |
Use the drop-down list box to specify the bin number. The system lists all the active bins valid for the specified the warehouse number and warehouse zone number combination, if the zone is of type "Normal". If the zone is of type "Free", the system leaves this field blank. |
Click the “Get Details” pushbutton to retrieve the storage allocation and trading partner details for the selected warehouse number, warehouse zone number and bin number combination.
Enter the following field in the “Storage Allocation Information” group box:
Storage Category |
Use the drop-down list box to specify the category of storage allocation. The system lists "Shared" and "Exclusive".
Do not leave this field blank. |
Note: If the warehouse type is “Normal”, the zone is entered, and storage category is selected as "Exclusive", ensure that this storage area is not already allocated to any other trading partner.
If the zone type is “Normal”, the bin is entered, and storage category is selected as "Exclusive", ensure that this storage area is not already allocated to any other trading partner.
If the warehouse type is “Normal”, the zone is entered, and storage category is selected as "Shared", ensure that this storage area is not already allocated to any other trading partner as "Exclusive".
If the zone type is “Normal”, the bin is entered, and storage category is selected as "Shared", ensure that this storage area is not already allocated to any other trading partner as "Exclusive".
Enter the following fields in the “Trading Partner Information” multiline:
Trading Partner # |
The unique code identifying the trading partner, which could be supplier code or customer code (Alphanumeric 45). Mandatory. Ensure that the code entered here is an active trading partner, as defined in the “Customer” or “Supplier” business component. Help facility available. |
Note: Ensure that the trading partner number is not repeated for a particular storage address (warehouse-zone-bin combination), if the storage category is "Exclusive".
You cannot modify an existing trading partner number.
Trading Partner Type |
Use the drop-down list box to specify the trading partner type. The system lists "Customer" and "Supplier". The system sets this field to "Customer", by default. |
Note: If the trading partner type is “Customer”, ensure that the value entered in the “Trading Partner #” field is a valid customer number as defined in the “Customer” business component.
If the trading partner type is “Supplier”, ensure that the value entered in the “Trading Partner #” field is a valid supplier number as defined in the “Supplier” business component.
If the Storage Category is "Shared", ensure that the trading partner number-trading partner type combination is not repeated for a specific storage area.
The system displays the following field:
Trading Partner Name |
The name of the trading partner, which could be either a customer name or supplier name. |
Enter the following:
Storage Rule |
Use the drop-down list box to specify the storage rule. The system lists "Only At" and "Also At".
The system sets the field to "Only At" by default. |
Note: If the storage rule is “Also At”, ensure that the trading partner is not allocated as "Only At" in another storage area in the warehouse.
If the storage rule is “Only At”, ensure that the trading partner is not allocated another storage area in the warehouse
Default Location? |
Use the drop-down list box and select “Yes” to specify whether there exists a default location. Otherwise, select “No”. |
Note: Ensure that the default location value is set as "Yes" for only a specific storage address (warehouse-zone-bin combination) for a specific trading partner.
Ensure that at least one record is entered in the multiline.
Click the “Maintain Stock Allocation” pushbutton to maintain the stock allocation details.
The system ensures that bins are defined for the selected zone, if the zone is of type “Normal”.
The system displays an error message, if any other concurrent user modifies the stock allocation details.
The system ensures that storage category is specified as “Exclusive” for non-controlled parts already stored in a particular storage area.
Click the Delete icon in the toolbar above the multiline to delete a trading partner from a specific storage area.
Note: While deleting a trading partner from a specific storage area, ensure that the storage strategy for that storage area is deleted if it exists.
A trading partner in a specific storage area can be deleted only when there is no stock for that trading partner in the specific storage area.

Maintain external stock allocation – An overview
This page allows you to allocate a storage address, for stock received from the supplier or customer. You can specify the storage category, whether “Exclusive” or “Shared”. You can also specify whether a storage address is to be a trading partner’s default storage location.
