The system displays the following in the “Warehouse Information” group box:

Warehouse #

The number identifying the warehouse.

Description

The textual description of the warehouse.

Zoom facility available

Warehouse Type

The type of the warehouse, which could be “Normal” or “Free”.

Warehouse Category

The category to which the warehouse belongs.

 

Part #

The number identifying the part for which the storage strategy information must be retrieved (Alphanumeric, 40). You can enter the number in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the records containing the part number entered here.

Part Description

The textual description of the part (Alphanumeric, 150). You can enter the description in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the parts with the description entered here.

Stock Status

Use the drop-down list box to select the stock status of the part. The system lists all the "Active" stock statuses, as defined in the "User Defined Stock Status" business component. Leave this field blank to retrieve all parts irrespective of their stock status.

The system leaves this field blank by default.

Trading Partner #

The unique code identifying the trading partner, which could be supplier code or customer code (Alphanumeric 45). You can enter the code in full or specify it partially using the “*” character. The system retrieves all the records containing the trading partner number entered here.

Part #

The number identifying the part to be allocated to the specified warehouse (Alphanumeric, 40). Mandatory. The part must be in “Active” status, as defined in the “Create Parts Main Information” activity of the “Part Administration” business component.

The system displays the following:

Part Description

The textual description of the part.

Stock Status

Use the drop-down list box to select the stock status of the part. The system lists all the "Active" stock statuses, as defined in the "User Defined Stock Status" business component. Ensure that the stock status selected is mapped to the part type of the part, as specified in the “User Defined Stock Status” business component.

The system leaves this field blank by default.

The system displays the following:

Trading Partner Type

The type of the trading partner. The system displays the Trading Partner Type based on the Ownership of the Stock Status.

Enter the Following:

Trading Partner #

The unique code identifying the trading partner, which could be supplier code or customer code (Alphanumeric 45).

Ensure that the code entered here is valid for the trading partner type that is mapped to the selected stock status in the “User Defined Stock Status” business component. Also ensure that the code entered here is an active trading partner, as defined in the “Customer” or “Supplier” business component.

Note: Ensure that the “Trading Partner #” is not left blank if the stock status selected has the 'Ownership' attribute mapped as either Customer or Supplier.

The system displays the following:

Partner Name

The name of the trading partner.

Enter the following:

Placement Strategy

Use the drop down list box to set the method of placement of the part in the zone or bin. The system lists the following options:

 
  • Fixed Storage – indicates that the placement of the stock is fixed.

 
  • Storage Proximity – indicates the stocking position of Zones or Bins, which could be “Near”, “Medium” or “Far”.

 
  • Existing Stock Addition - indicates that the stock can be added to the existing stock available in zone or bin.

 
  • Next Empty Storage – indicates that the stock can be moved to the subsequent vacant zone or bin.

 
  • Manual - indicates that the stock can be placed manually.

 

The system displays “Manual” by default.

Note: Ensure that for the warehouse of type “Free" the “Placement Strategy” is set as “Not Applicable”.

Default Placement Zone

The zone in which the stock must be placed, by default (Alphanumeric, 10). . The zone must be of type “Normal” and in “Active” status, as defined in the “Create Warehouse Information” activity of the current business component.

Default Placement Bin

The bin in which the part must be placed, by default (Alphanumeric, 10). The bin must be of type “Normal”, as defined in the “Create Warehouse Information” activity of the current business component. Ensure that the bin is not in “Disabled” status.

Picking Strategy

Use the drop-down list box to specify the picking strategy. The system lists the following strategies in which the parts must be picked on issuing from the stocking location:

 
  • LIFO - (Last In First Out) - indicates that the part must be issued at the latest receipt. Issues thereafter are made at previous receipts. A strict chronological order is followed.

 
  • FIFO - (First In First Out) – indicates that the part must be issued at the earliest receipt. Issues thereafter are made at recent receipt. A strict chronological order is followed.

 
  • Min Remaining Shelf Life  – indicates that the part must be issued based on its shelf life or expiry value, which could be in terms of years, months, weeks or days. Ensure that the part is defined as ‘shelf life controlled’ in the “Create Parts Main Information” activity of the “Part Administration” business component.

 
  • Min Remaining Life – indicates that the part must be issued based on its minimum remaining life. Ensure that the part is of type “Component”, as defined in the “Create Parts Main Information” activity of the “Part Administration” business component.

 
  • Max Remaining Life – indicates that the part must be issued based on the maximum remaining life. Ensure that the part is of type “Component”, as defined in the “Create Parts Main Information” activity of the “Part Administration” business component.

 
  • Min Lot – indicates that the part to be issued is lot number controlled, as defined in the “Create Parts Main Information” activity of the “Part Administration” business component.

 
  • Default Zone/Bin – indicates that the part must be issued from its default zone and bin.

 
  • Manual – indicates that the part is issued manually from the warehouse.

 
  • Earliest Certificate Date – Indicates that when a part is requested through MR, issue must be created for the part with earliest certificate date.

 

The system displays “Default Zone/Bin” by default.

Note: Ensure that the “Picking Strategy” for the warehouse of type “Free” is “Not Applicable”. The “Picking Strategy” can be “LIFO” or “FIFO” only if the part is serial controlled or lot controlled or both.

Default Picking Zone

The zone from which the part must be picked for issue, by default (Alphanumeric, 10). The zone must be of type “Normal” and in “Active” status, as defined in the “Create Warehouse Information” activity of the current business component. Ensure that the zone is not in “Disabled” status.

Default Picking Bin

The bin from which the part must be picked for issue, by default (Alphanumeric, 10). The bin must be of type “Normal” as defined in the “Create Warehouse Information” activity of the current business component. Ensure that the bin is not in “Disabled” status.

 Note: Ensure that atleast one row is entered in the multiline, if the details are entered for the first time.

Maintain Storage Allocation and Strategies- A summary of the activity

This page allows you to adopt a strategy for the storage allocation procedure.

You can define the zone and bin in the warehouse, in which the part must be placed by default. You can also specify the zone and bin in the warehouse, from which the part must be issued by default. The strategy to be adopted while issuing the part from the zone or bin can be specified as “FIFO”, “LIFO”, “Shelf Life Expiry”, “Min Remaining Life”, Max Remaining Life”, “Min Lot”, “Default Zone/Bin” or “Manual”.
