Create Warehouse Information– A summary of the activity

Storage Administration - An overview

Pages inside the activity

What you can do in this activity

In this activity, you can define the warehouse that stores a variety of parts, on which various types of receipts, issues and returns are possible. There are number of storage units called “Warehouse” in each organizational unit that enables you to define the hierarchy of storing parts. A warehouse can be divided into zones and these zones can further be divided into bins. Thus a warehouse is the highest level of storage and the bin is the lowest level of storage.

A unique number identifies each warehouse that is controlled by a “Warehouse Incharge”, who is responsible for all the transactions that take place in the warehouse. You can configure a warehouse as “Nettable”, which means the parts in the warehouse can be considered for MRP run. For example, parts meant for research and development, and destructive testing can be maintained in a warehouse that need not be taken into account for production, the warehouse which stores such parts shall not be considered as Nettable.

A warehouse can be a “Free” warehouse if parts are stored in bulk in that warehouse. Also a Free Warehouse does not constitute any Zones. Alternately, it can be a “Normal” warehouse, which can be divided into zones and bins for storing a variety of parts. Similarly, a zone can also be a “Normal” or “Free” zone. A free Zone does not constitute any Bins. This type of storage concept helps in the traceability of parts, because rules pertaining to the storage of parts in specified zones and bins can be stated, which may help in classifying the storage of chemicals, hazardous parts and explosive parts.

Define warehouse code as unique at company or OU level based on system parameter

The warehouse number must be unique across organizational units if the “System Parameter” activity is set to “Yes” in the “Logistics Common Master” business component. Otherwise, the warehouse number can be the same in the various organization units in which it is defined.

Define warehouse of different storage type

Warehouse can be of “Normal” or “Free” storage type. The warehouse with “Normal” storage type can be further divided into zones and bins for storing a variety of parts. This type of warehouse helps to store the parts in a structured manner, which also helps in traceability of parts. The parts can be stored in bulk in the warehouse if the storage type is “Free”.

Define normal and free zones under a warehouse

The zones can be defined for the warehouse of storage type “Normal”. These zones can be of type “Normal” or “Free”, to enable part traceability. For zones of type “Normal”, bins can be defined within the zone for storing the parts.

Specify “Picking priority” for a zone

You can specify the priority in which the parts must be issued from the zone. At the time of issuing a particular part from the warehouse, the availability of the part will be checked in the various zones based on the priority specified here.

Define bins under a zone

A bin is the area in the zone that can be specifically allocated for storage of a particular part. You can define bins for zones of type “Normal”.

Specify “Picking priority” for a bin

You can specify the priority for the various bins in the zone. At the time of issuing a particular part from the warehouse, the availability of the part will first be checked in the various zones, and then in the bins based on the priority assigned.

Configure warehouse as “Allow Reservation / Hard Allocation”

You can specify the warehouse as Allow Reservation/Hard allocation for considering the parts in the warehouse for reservation and hard allocation.
