Planning Aircraft Maintenance - A summary of the activity
This activity is a one-stop facility for planners to evaluate, plan and schedule maintenance of aircraft. Primarily, this activity enables aircraft planners to create packages and schedule/reschedule tasks/packages using a graphical user interface.
To start with, this activity provides a summary of all the forecasted tasks from the maintenance program for an aircraft. Non-routine tasks (MELs, deferred maintenance items, log book entries) available for the aircraft are also retrieved in this activity. This vital information forms the primary input for planners and facilitates scheduling/rescheduling of packages for an aircraft. Though the start and end dates for tasks are generated during forecast based on the time limits defined in the maintenance program, you can reschedule them in this activity.
Typically, a planner may create a new package by assigning tasks or assign tasks to an existing package. Such a package can be scheduled by setting planned start and end dates for execution. The planner can also allot a work center and a slot for the execution of the package on an aircraft. Subsequently, the planner can release the package for execution.
You can accomplish the following as part of maintenance planning for an aircraft:
Reschedule tasks
Create / Release package
Assign tasks to package
Reschedule package
Add/delete tasks from package
Cancel package
Assign package to slot
Reschedule slot
Print task cards
Evaluate material and resource constraints for tasks at an aircraft level
This activity facilitates jobs related to maintenance planning including:
Maintaining relationships between tasks
Record short term escalation
Performing opportunity maintenance
Creating repair procedures
Initializing maintenance program an updating compliance for aircraft
Generating Aircraft Due List and Aircraft Status reports
Specific Gantt charts facilitate the above-mentioned tasks at ease in a graphical way.
The “Job Details” Gantt chart provides aircraft and task level information. You can specify the search criteria to retrieve the aircraft and its constituent tasks for which you wish to schedule/reschedule maintenance activities. Tell me more
The “Package Details” Gantt chart provides information on packages scheduled for the aircraft that you select in the Job Details. You can assign these packages to slots listed in the following sections. Tell me more
The “Maint. Exe. Slot Details” Gantt chart displays the free slots to which you can assign packages for execution. Tell me more
The “Package-Slot Details” Gantt chart displays the assigned slots together with the allocated packages, to which you can assign more packages for execution. Tell me more

What you can do in this activity
Planning maintenance activities for aircraft
Evaluating constraints for tasks scheduled on aircraft
Planning maintenance activities for aircraft
You can modify / view the maintenance activities scheduled for a particular aircraft. The flight schedules, journey logs and pending tasks for the aircraft are displayed in the “Planning Details Chart”.
The user can take necessary action on the work unit (Assign, Un-assign, Create and Create / Release Package), and plan the maintenance activity.
Create package
Modify package
Schedule/reschedule package
Assign package to work center and slot
Evaluating constraints for tasks scheduled on aircraft
You can retrieve aircraft for which maintenance activities are to be planned for a given date range. All the aircraft and pending tasks, on aircraft satisfying the search criteria, are displayed in the “Job Details Chart”.
The tasks scheduled start and end date can be modified by dragging over the bar. If the work unit is allocated to any execution document, the work unit bar cannot be dragged in the Gantt chart.
If there are any material / resource constraints for carrying out the task, they are also displayed.
