Setting data elements for replication

Setup Data Elements for Replication - A summary of the activity

Unified Glossary

Basics of using a typical web page

Using Online Help

The “Setup Data Elements for Replication” page appears.

Functional Area

Use the drop-down list and select the functional area associated to each entity participating in data replication. The system lists the options “All”, “Maintenance”, “Materials”, “Finance”, “Sales” and “HRMS”.

By default, the system displays “All”.

Entity

Use the drop-down list box and select the entity. The system lists all the Entities with the Replication Strategy "Initial" or "Full" as defined in the “Setup Entities for Data Replication” activity corresponding to the Functional Area selected. If Functional Area is selected as “All”, the system lists all the entities available across all the Functional Areas.

By default, the system displays “All”.

Data Element Group

Use the drop-down list box and select the data element group that represents the logical grouping of data elements within an entity. For example, the data elements like ‘Designed Shelf Life’, ‘Shelf Life Unit’, ‘Shelf Life Extendable’ and ‘Minimum Shelf Life’ can be grouped as “Shelf Life Details” for an entity ‘Part’. The system lists the values based on the Entity selected.

  • If the Entity is selected as "All", the system lists and defaults the value "All".

  • If the Entity is selected as other than “All”, the system displays the list of Data Element Group corresponding to the Entity selected.

Show Related Entities

Check this box to retrieve and display all the related entities specific to the selected entity, on search. The related entities are retrieved and displayed based on the functional area selected.

Show Undefined Data Elements

Check this box to retrieve and display the data elements for which Replication Strategy is not defined or for which Replication Strategy is defined but there are Error Messages logged for the Data Element.

The system displays the following in the “Data Element Details” multiline:

Functional Area

The functional area associated to the entity.

Entity

The entity comprising the data element to be replicated across operating units.

Data Element Group

The data element group represents logical grouping of data elements within an entity.

Data Element

The data element considered for replication.

Permitted Strategies

The permitted Replication Strategy for each data element. The system displays the values “None”, “Initial”, “Full Condition”  “Full” and / or “Default Value”.

  • If Entity level Replication Strategy is "None" then the corresponding Entity and Data Elements will not be available for Setup Data Element Level Replication as it is not required to replicate the Entity or any of it Data Element.

  • If Entity level Replication Strategy is "Initial", then Possible Strategy for the Data Element can be any or combination of “None” and “Initial” and “Default value”. The Permitted Strategy is displayed based on the Replication Strategy selected in entity level as well as the possible Replication Strategy specified for the data element in the metadata.

  • If Entity level Replication Strategy is "Full", then Possible Strategy for the Data Element can be any or combination of “None”, “Initial”, “Full Condition” and/or “Full” and “Default Value”. The Permitted Strategy is displayed based on the Replication Strategy selected in entity level as well as the possible Replication Strategy specified for the data element in the metadata.

Replication Strategy

Use the drop-down list box and select the Replication Strategy for the data element as “Full”, “Full Condition”, “Initial”, “Default Value” or “None”. Mandatory.

The Replication Strategy selected must be within the "Permitted Strategies" for the data element.

You cannot upgrade the Replication Strategy, if one or more operating units participating in data replication have been initialized or if Configurator Setup is in "Completed" status. Downgrading of Replication Strategy is allowed after initialization of OU only if the parameter ‘‘Allow modification of Data Replication Setup even if the Configurator Setup is "Completed"?’ is set as '1' in the “Set Options for Data Replication” activity.

On save, ensure that the Replication Strategy for the Entity corresponding to the Data Element is not modified in the “Setup Entities for Data Replication” activity.

By default, the system leaves the field blank.

Modifiable?

Check this box to indicate that the Replication Strategy for the data element can be modified by the Recipient Unit (Operating Unit that receives data).

On save, you can leave the check box unchecked, only if the Replication Strategy set for the Data Element for one or more Recipient Units is same as the current Replication Strategy set for the Data Element in the 'Setup Data Elements for Replication' activity.

Remarks

Any remarks related to data element setup.

The system displays the following:

Error Message

The error message if any, displayed while setting up data element.

Data Element Constituents

The constituents of the data element.

Entity Related to

The entities related to the entity selected in the header.

Created By

The login ID of the user who created the record.

Created Date

The date and time at which the record was created.

Last Modified By

The login ID of the user who last modified the record.

Last Modified Date

The date and time at which the record was last modified.

The system defaults the Replication Strategy for the Data Elements in the Replication Strategy drop-down in the multiline, with the maximum value of "Permitted Strategies" for the corresponding Data Element.

Note: The system displays an error if any concurrent user attempts to modify the data element details.

§  ‘Pending’, if the Replication Strategy is not defined even for one Data Element for any of the Entities participating in Data Replication.

§  ‘Inprogress’, if the Replication Strategy is defined for one or more Data Elements but not for all the Data Elements corresponding to all the Entities participating in Data Replication.

§  ‘Completed’, if the Replication Strategy is defined for all the Data Elements for all the Entities participating in Data Replication.

Note: If the above parameter is set as ’0’, the system does not allow the user to add new information and / or modify any existing information in the “Setup Data Elements for Replication” activity.
