Create Attributes – A summary of the activity

Attribute Definition - An overview

What you can do in this activity

Attributes are certain characteristics or traits of a part, which are useful in analyzing the quality of a part. Parts that are defined in the inventory (especially the lot and serial controlled parts) flow through different processes in the organization.  To keep track of them, each part can be associated with an attribute. Its value can then be analyzed throughout its course in the warehouse.

The part can be associated with any number of attributes. For example, diameter and weight can be the attributes associated with a single part such as a nut or a bolt. The value of these attributes can be captured during different transactions. During part procurement these attributes along with the values can be communicated to the supplier. At the time of receipt it can be ensured that the part has been delivered with the correct quality characteristics.

You can create an attribute by providing an attribute code. You can also specify the attribute description and the attribute type. Attributes can be classified into two types: “Qualitative” and “Quantitative”. For example, some of the attributes like the color of the oil have qualitative values such as red and black. Items like tyre can have attributes such as taper angle which are measurable within the minimum value of 3 degrees and the maximum value of 5 degrees.

You can also associate a standard unit of measurement with the quantitative attributes.

As soon as you create the attribute code, the system sets the status as “Active”. It also sets the creation date and the creation time

Define attributes for the parts

Attributes of type “Quantitative” and “Qualitative” can be defined for the parts.

Associate UOM with a “Quantitative” attribute

A Unit Of Measurement (UOM) can be associated with each attribute of the “Quantitative” type.
