Object Attachment - An Overview
The Object Attachment business component serves as a utility component providing services for managing the digital object storage requirements of various business components.
Business entities/documents have a multitude of information associated to them. While information systems attempts to capture the key details as data attributes of the entities/documents, there exist sizeable pieces of information, which are textual/graphical in nature but provide important decision making inputs. Such information is typically converted into digital format and stored along-with the entity as additional “attachments”, for reference.
The digital objects need to be moved to a central repository (typically a file storage device) from the point of their creation (usually on execution of a business function). The object needs to be made available for usage (viewing/editing) in the subsequent stages of the document life cycle.
