Occurrence Reporting– An overview
An occurrence is the happening of an event, related to safety or others, which needs follow-up or corrective measures. The various types of occurrences can be categorized as aircraft-related, personnel-related, spill, tool/equipment-related, scheduled maintenance or unscheduled maintenance. An occurrence can be during flight of an aircraft or during maintenance activities at maintenance bases such as field bases or hangars / component shops. The pilot or the mechanic involved in the occurrence reports the same to the maintenance personnel or operations manager for further action.
The “Occurrence Reporting” business component serves the following purposes:
4Reports the type of occurrence, date and time, location of occurrence and customer delay details.
4Specifies whether the occurrence has led to any personnel injury or property damage, and whether any emergency procedure must be followed.
4Furnishes details of the personnel involved in the occurrence, the phase of operation during which the event occurred and the incident information.
4Specifies the details of the aircraft that was damaged due to the occurrence and furnishes the replacement details of the aircraft, if any.
4Specifies whether the aircraft was released to maintenance and the time at which it was released for maintenance.
4Records the details of the employee involved in the occurrence, and the incident details.
4Records occurrence-related discrepancy details, for aircraft-related occurrences.
Note: If the occurrence type is aircraft-related or unscheduled maintenance, the system generates two types of discrepancies such as “PIREP” and “MIREP”. The PIREP gets associated to the journey log and processed in the technical log, whereas the MIREP discrepancy is directly processed in the technical log.
A discrepancy will be generated if the occurrence report is of type "Aircraft Related" or "Unscheduled Maintenance". PIREP discrepancy will be associated to a journey log and resolved through technical log, whereas the MIREP discrepancy will be resolved directly in a technical log.
