Disposition Review – A summary of the activity
Material planning plays a vital role in any organization. With the stock availability as the bottom line, it is important to have a perfect balance between the inventory carrying cost and the purchasing cost. This optimization can be achieved by selecting the right planning model for each part. Organizations adopt various planning models, such as setting the re-order level or the minimum and maximum levels, or performing a need based planning. The need based planning is known as “Disposition”. While the reorder and min-max models are based on past material consumption, disposition is based on future demands and receipts.
“Disposition” is usually followed for high value items such as APU and Engines, where the part needs to be reserved for the upcoming maintenance activities. A repository of all expected receipts and demands is maintained, and each demand is pegged against a receipt. The repository is updated, whenever a transaction occurs, which affects the demand or receipt of a part.
A “Receipt” is recorded when parts are purchased and updated in the inventory. Receipts occur due to transactions such as Purchase Request, Purchase Order, Release Slip etc. When a “Demand” is created within a warehouse, the repository is checked for availability of free stock. If free stock is available, then a reservation is done in advance for upcoming maintenance activities. In case of non-availability of the free stock within the warehouse, stock transfer can be executed from another warehouse where free stock is available. Demands are triggered due to events such as creation / release of visit plans, work orders, material requests etc.
In this activity, you will be able to view the demands raised for a part, during a specified period. You can also review the receipts pegged against a particular demand and the demands pegged against a particular receipt.
