This page allows you to add or modify the details of the parts included in the minimum equipment list. Tell me more

The “Edit Minimum Equipment List” page appears.

The system displays the following in the “Model Details” group box:

Aircraft Make

The aircraft model for which the minimum equipment list must be defined.

Manufacturer #

The manufacturer of the aircraft.

The system fills in the following fields in the “Configuration Class Details” group box:

Revision #

The revision number of the model configuration.

Configuration Class

The configuration class to which the aircraft model is associated.

Config. Status

The status of the model configuration, which could be “Fresh” or “Active”.

Note: The system lists the parts that are already included in the minimum equipment list defined for the model configuration, in the multiline.

MEL Item #

The number identifying the MEL item that must be included in the minimum equipment list (Alphanumeric, 30).

MEL Item Desc

The textual description of the MEL item (Alphanumeric, 150).

Config. Status

The status of the model configuration, which could be “Fresh” or “Active”.

Part #

The part number of the MEL item (Alphanumeric, 40).  

 
  • Ensure that the part number has already been defined in the “Create Parts Main Information” activity of the “Part Administration” business component and is in “Active” status.

 
  • The part number must have been associated to position code in any level in the model configuration if it is of part type “Component” or “Expendable”.

 
  • The part number must have not been included in the “Configuration Deviation List”.

Deferral Category

Use the drop-down list box to select the deferral category to which the MEL item belongs. The system lists all the active deferral categories defined in the “Create Deferral Category” activity.

The system fills in the following fields on clicking the “Edit MEL” pushbutton:

Deferral Category Desc

The textual description of the deferral category

Item Status

Use the drop-down list box to select the status of the MEL item. The system lists the options “Active” and “Inactive”.

The system displays the following field:

Number Installed

The total quantity specified for the part in the model. The system gets this information from the “Build Model Configuration" page.

MEL Quantity

The quantity of the part to be included in the minimum equipment list (Decimal). Mandatory.

Number Required

The minimum quantity of the part to be included in the MEL (Decimal). This value must be positive. Ensure that this value is less than or equal to the value entered in the "MEL Quantity" field.

The system displays the following field:

Position Based ?

The system displays “Yes” in this field, when the MEL quantity for the part is less than the total quantity specified for the part in the model. This indicates that the position code details, for the quantity of the part included in the MEL, must be entered in the “Edit MEL Position Information” page.

Conditional ?

Use the drop-down list box and set the field to “Yes” to indicate that the usage of the part in an unserviceable state is based on certain conditions. The system provides the options “Yes” and “No”.

Conditions

The conditions or the factors governing the usage of the part in an unserviceable state (Alphanumeric, 15). Data entry in this field is mandatory if the “Conditional?” field is set to “Yes”.

The system fills in the following field on clicking the “Edit MEL” pushbutton:

Part Description

The textual description of the part.

Deferral Task #

The task performed during the first scheduled maintenance to rectify a deferred discrepancy, which would have occurred during a maintenance activity. Ensure that the task number entered here is valid for the aircraft model specified in the “Model Details” group box, as defined in the “Maintenance Task” business component.

Deferral Rev. Task #

The task performed during the second scheduled maintenance, in case of further deferment in the discrepancy rectification. This task can be same as the Deferral Task or a different task as per the requirements. Ensure that the task number entered here is valid for the aircraft model specified in the “Model Details” group box, as defined in the “Maintenance Task” business component.

Operational Procedures

The operational procedures of flying the aircraft with the part in an unserviceable state (Alphanumeric, 255).

Maintenance Procedures

The maintenance procedures of flying the aircraft with the part in an unserviceable state (Alphanumeric, 255).

Placard

Use the drop-down list box to indicate whether a placard must be posted at the location of the MEL item. The system lists the options “Required” and “Not Required”.

Placarding Instructions

The instructions to be given on the placard (Alphanumeric, 2000).

File Name

The file name of the document that contains MEL item details (Alphanumeric, 50).

Entering minimum equipment list for model configuration – An overview

Build Model Configuration - A summary of the activity

Minimum equipment list (MEL) is the list of equipment approved by the aviation authority, which may remain in an unserviceable state under certain operating conditions, but still provide an acceptable level of safety in the operation of the aircraft.

This option allows you to add or modify the details of the parts included in the minimum equipment list. The following details can be entered:

The total quantity specified for the parts in the model configuration is displayed by the system. The MEL quantity for the part can be less than or equal to the total quantity specified for the part in the model. For every part, the position code details for the quantity included in the MEL can be entered in the “Edit MEL Position Information” page.
