Appraisal Exception Handling - A summary of the activity
Through this activity, the Appraisal administrator or HR user can handle any exceptions that may arise in the appraisal cycle, and then close the appraisal. Before closing the appraisal, you can also request the system to compute the employee’s overall appraisal rating.
When CO’s review is not obtained: Sometimes, when the countersigning officer’s review of the employee’s appraisal is required, he may not be available or his review cannot be obtained. During such exceptions, you can set the Countersigning Officer Review Exception Status to “Yes”, to indicate that the appraisal can proceed without the CO’s review. The CO’s comments can optionally be recorded, on his behalf. You can then close the employee’s appraisal.
When the employee’s acceptance was not obtained: There could be instances when the employee does not record his feedback or acceptance during the course of the performance appraisal. Tell me more. The employee may later indicate his acceptance. During such exceptions, you can set the Employee Acceptance Status to “Yes”. The employee’s comments can optionally be recorded, on his behalf. You can then close the employee’s appraisal.
When the appraisal requires to be short closed: The appraisal of an employee may require to be short closed, for any one of the following reasons:
The employee’s appraisal is not completed
The employee is no longer with the organization
The appraisal consolidation is not required for the employee.
As an administrator, you can reopen a closed or short closed appraisal of an employee, for any other process/actions.
Overall appraisal rating grade: After you handle the exceptions, you can request the system to compute the overall appraisal-rating grade of the employee.

When the employee’s acceptance is required
The employee’s acceptance is required for closing the appraisal, when the “Appraisal Acceptance By Employee Before Countersigning Officer Review” field in the “Record Appraisal Calendar” activity is set to “Yes”.
If it is set to “no”, the appraisal can be closed without the employee’s acceptance.
