Activating / inactivating cost element
This page allows you to activate or inactivate a cost element. Tell me more.
Select the “Activate / Inactivate Cost Element” link under the “Cost Setup” business component.
The “Activate / Inactivate Cost Element” page appears.
Enter the following fields if you are aware of the code identifying the cost element that you want to activate or inactivate:
Cost Element |
The code identifying the cost element that you want to activate or inactivate (Alphanumeric, 32). |
Press <Enter> key. | |
The system retrieves the details of the cost element in the respective fields in the multiline. |
Enter the following fields in the “Search Criteria” group box to search for the cost element that you want to activate or inactivate. Data entry in the following fields is optional.
Cost Element Type |
Use the drop-down list box to select the type of the cost element that you want to retrieve. You can select from “Normal Cost Element”, “Activity Cost Element” or “Allocation Cost Element”. The system displays “All” by default on launch of the page. |
User ID |
The login ID of the user who created the cost element that you want to activate or inactivate (Alphanumeric, 15). |
UOM Code |
The code identifying the unit of measurement (Alphanumeric, 10). |
Cost Element From |
The starting code in the range of cost element codes that you want to retrieve (Alphanumeric, 32). |
Note: The code entered in this field must be before or the same as the code entered in the “To” field.

The ending code in the range of cost element codes that you want to retrieve (Alphanumeric, 32). |
Description |
The description of the cost element that you want to retrieve (Alphanumeric, 40). |

Effective Date |
Use the drop-down list box to select the date from which the cost element that you want to retrieve is effective. All the start dates of the MAC periods that have been defined for MAC years that are in the “Open” status will be available for selection in the chronological order. The system displays the earliest “Open” MAC period by default. |
Note: The date selected in this field must be before or the same as the date selected in the “Expiry Date” field.
Expiry Date |
Use the drop-down list box to select the date on which the cost element that you want to retrieve is to expire. All the end dates of the MAC periods that have been defined for MAC years that are in the “Open” status will be available for selection in the chronological order. The system displays the latest “Open” MAC period by default. |
Status |
Use the drop-down list box to select the status of the cost element. You can select from “Activate”, “Inactivate” or “All”. The system displays “Active” by default on launch of the page. |
Click the “Search” pushbutton to retrieve the search results.
The system retrieves and displays the following in the “Cost Element Details” multiline based on the search criteria entered:

The description of the cost element. |
Long Description |
The detailed description of the cost element. |
Cost Element Type |
Indicates the type of the cost element. It could be “Normal Cost Element”, “Activity Cost Element” or “Allocation Cost Element”. |
UOM Code |
The code identifying the unit of measurement. |
Effective Date |
The date from when the cost element is in effective use. |
Expiry Date |
The date till which the cost element is in effective use. |
Status |
The status of the cost element. It could be “Active” or “Inactive”. |

Check the box in the “Select” column of the multiline to mark a cost element for deletion.
Note: You can activate a cost element that is in the “Inactive” status.
Click the “Activate” pushbutton to activate the cost element.
The system updates the status of the cost element as “Active”. The system also stores the login ID of the user and the system date along with the cost element details.
Note: You can inactivate a cost element that is in the “Active” status.
Click the “Inactivate” pushbutton to inactivate the cost element.
The system updates the status of the cost element as “Inactive”. The system also stores the login ID of the user and the system date along with the cost element details.
