Maintain Alternate Part Nos – A summary of the activity

Alternate part numbers are defined to reduce the maintenance related grounding time of an aircraft. In case a part number required is not available at the site of maintenance, an equivalent part can be substituted to complete the maintenance activity.

Alternate part numbers are valid parts existing in the inventory. When a part, which is not available in the inventory, is requested for issue, the material controller will be able to issue a substitute for the requested part.

A part can be substituted with another part subject to interchangeability rules. Interchangeability rules govern the direction in which the two equivalent parts can be substituted. In case part numbers are alternated with another for a specific aircraft model or a position code, the details must be defined in the “Build Model Configuration” and “Build Aircraft Configuration” activities of the “Configuration” business component.

The “Select Part #” page allows you to search and select a part number to update the alternate part number information. The “Maintain Alternate Part Nos” page allows you to update the alternate part details of the selected part number.

Create alternate part numbers for the part

At the maintenance site, if a required part number is not available, an equivalent part can be substituted to complete the maintenance activity. Such parts can be defined as alternate parts for the requested part number.

• Go to “Select Part #” page to select the part number for which the alternate part numbers must be defined.

• Go to “Maintain Alternate Part Nos” page to create the alternate part details for the part.
