Entering MEL position information for model configuration

This page helps you to enter the MEL position information for model configuration. Tell me more

Select the “Edit MEL Position Details” link at the bottom of the “Edit Minimum Equipment List“ page.

The ”Edit MEL Position Information” page appears.

The system displays the following fields in the “Model Details” group box:

Aircraft Model #	The aircraft model for which the MEL position information must be entered.
Manufacturer #	The manufacturer of the aircraft.

The system displays the following in the “Configuration Details” group box:

Revision #	The revision number of the model configuration.
Configuration Class	The configuration class to which the aircraft model is associated.
Config. Status	The status of the model configuration which could be “Fresh” or “Active”.

The system displays the following fields in the “Part Details” group box:

MEL Item #	The number identifying the MEL item for which the position details must be defined.
MEL Item Desc	The textual description of the MEL item.
Part #	The part number of the MEL item.
MEL Quantity	The quantity of the selected part included in the minimum equipment list.
Part Description	The textual description of the part.

The system fills in the following fields in the “Position Details” multiline:

Level Code	The level at which the part is associated to this position code in the model configuration hierarchy. The number of decimals in the level code denotes the level at which the position code and the part number occurs in the hierarchy. Refer Figure 1 for more details.
Position Code	The position code to which the part has been associated in the model.
NHA	The next higher assembly or the parent part, to which the position code is attached.

Enter the following fields:

MEL	Use the drop-down list box and set the field to “Yes”, if you wish to include the part associated to this position code in the minimum equipment list. Select “No” otherwise.
Conditional ?	Use the drop-down list box and set the field to “Yes” to indicate that, the part associated to the position code can remain in an unserviceable state, based on certain conditions. The system provides the options “Yes” and “No”.
Conditions	The conditions or the factors governing the usage of the part in an unserviceable state, when the part is associated to this position code (Alphanumeric, 15). Data entry in this field is mandatory if the “Conditional?" field is set to “Yes”.
Operational Procedures	The operational procedures of flying the aircraft with the part placed in the position code in an unserviceable state (Alphanumeric, 255).
Maintenance Procedures	The maintenance procedures of flying the aircraft with the part placed in the position code in an unserviceable state (Alphanumeric, 255).
Placard	Use the drop-down list box to indicate whether a placard must be posted at the position code of the MEL item. The system lists the options “Required” and “Not Required”.
Placarding Instructions	The instructions to be given on the placard (Alphanumeric, 2000).

Note: Ensure that the number of rows in the multiline for which the “MEL” field is set to “Yes”, is equal to the value displayed in the “MEL Quantity” field.

Click the “Edit MEL Positions” pushbutton.

Entering MEL position information for model configuration – An overview

Use this page to specify the exact position codes, of the part selected in the “Edit Minimum Equipment List” page, to be included in the MEL. You need to enter the position code details in this page only when the MEL quantity is less than the total quantity specified for the part in the model.

The system lists all the position codes to which the part has been associated in the model, along with their level codes. The level code uniquely identifies the level at which the position code and the associated part occur in the model configuration. Figure 1 explains the method in which the level codes are generated for the position codes and the associated part numbers.

Note: The position code directly attached under the model will be at the first level in the model configuration hierarchy.

For each level, you can indicate whether the position code must be included in the minimum equipment list. You can also specify the conditions based on which the part associated to the position code can remain in an unserviceable state. The maintenance and operational implications of flying the aircraft with the part fitted in the position code in an unserviceable state can be entered.

The system updates the position code details of the part in the minimum equipment list and stores the name of the currently logged in user and the current server date.
