Stock Transfer - An Overview

This component enables the transfer of stock between warehouses and locations in response to distribution requirements. When there is an unplanned requirement of material for execution of any activity, a stock transfer order can be created for drawing material from one of the stocking points called warehouse. Once the order is authorized, they are moved to the dispatch location for further processing. After the items are picked, carriers can be assigned and the items are shipped (if necessary). Stock transfer receipt is generated at the receiving location/warehouse. The receiving location/warehouse can be the same as that where the stock transfer order was initiated or different from it.

In a normal distributed setup, there are certain conditions under which stock transfer occurs:

• Intra-Warehouse: Stock transfers within a warehouse across zones/bins.

• Inter-Warehouse: Stock transfer between different warehouses located within the same location (within same OU).

• Inter-Warehouse: Stock transfer between different warehouses located across different locations (across different OU’s).
