Define Alternate Skills – A summary of the activity

This activity enables you to define alternate skills for a primary skill to facilitate the employees with alternate skills to sign off a task. For instance, certain tasks may require either Skill B1 or B2 to sign-off the completion of a task. 

You can map an alternate skill to a primary skill for a task in this activity. This means that a mechanic with the alternate skill can sign-off the task in place of the pre-requisite skill to ensure prompt completion of a task.

You can map multiple alternate skills for a primary skill. This would allow the multiple employees to sign-off tasks

Task Sign Off impact: In the Record Aircraft Maintenance Execution Details, Work Reporting Hub and Record Sign-Off & Work Completion screens, you can sign off sub tasks with the alternate skills instead of the required skills, if those alternate skill (s) have been mapped to the task-requisite skill in the Define Alternate Skills screen and if the Allow Alternates? for the corresponding task has been set as Yes in the Edit Resource / Sign-Off Requirement screen.

However, Alternate Skill mapping is possible only for tasks for which sign-off is mandatory and the resource type of the task is Skills.
